We always enjoy our stay at the Decameron Los Cocos. We love swimming in the ocean. There is always something good to eat. The fresh fruit at breakfast is amazing.

It’s location right on a swimming beach with access to sun and shade and interesting passersby Not enough chairs in or outside the room. Not everyone is comfortable on lounges. This is a serious defect that could be easily changed with cheap plastic chairs

It’s located on the south end of beach where the swimming is great Needs more chairs attached to rooms and around the pools. Lounges are not comfortable for some.

The location was phenomenal! It has direct access to the beach from many of its facilities while at the same time access to the little town on the opposite end (walk through multiple resort buildings). All facilities I visited were so well kept! Please note this is NOT a luxurious resort. It’s very old and outdated but it is clean, inexpensive, great location, and we felt safe at all times. The pools were clean, eating areas, rooms, beds, etc. The food is edible but again, not five star. But it’s also not spam (I read this somewhere before I went and still went for because of location safety and cleanliness). You get a good variety for all meals, and drinks. Omelette station, potatoes, chicken, soups, enchiladas, beans. Even if the building is old, it does have potential to be a 5 star. The cleanliness almost is 4-5 star because it was so well kept. For food, quality could improve. Service could be better and that would also contribute to more stars/experience. All staff was very kind but: I asked for towels, laundry service, crib, help with a/c, and for ALL it took really long to actually get someone up to my room and for most, multiple calls which is such a bummer because it’s wasted time for me. For the crib and laundry I waited more than one hour which is extremely inconvenient to say the least because I truly needed those items and couldn’t leave the room. But once they arrived, good service. The other was scheduling a taxi from hotel to airport. I was quoted a price and once the taxi arrived it was $500 pesos more. I was told it was because taxi was not affiliated with the hotel and taxi can set its own price but knowing that before would have made a difference.

The location was great and within a safe walking distance to downtown and shops along the way. If you like character of older hotels, it has its own eclectic charm that isn't found at the newer Decameron hotels in the area. It was kept very clean and tidy by staff, who were very accomodating and friendly. The rooms up at the 'adult' section were very spacious and had a lovely view. The pool area in the adult section had lots of available chairs daily, so there was no stress to claim enough chairs for 6 adults. It is quite a walk on uneven ground at times to get from the beach area to the hotel lobby and 'adult only' accomodation up on the hill. For older people or those with mobility problems, it may not be ideal. Although deemed as a quieter section with less children and noise, during the night you constantly hear cars on the road behind and dogs barking, then by 3am in the morning it was roosters crowing. The adult pool area had all the potential in the world with a nearby bar, full sun and ample chairs, but the pool had a 'no music' policy that was enforced. As a result, it didn't exactly allow for an adult party vibe at all.. it was lacking a little ambiance and all fun factor.

Building 1 was terrible, old and tired. Mover to building 4 and it was a lot better They charged me twice on my credit card, then could not refund my credit card! Insisted that they needed my personal bank info. Spent days and hours dealing with this and losing sleep over it. FOOD AT BUFFET IS TERRIBLE, UNLESS YOU LIKE WIENERS AND SPAM.

The bar tenders Honestly almost nothing, for the price paid, I would get a better place in Puerto Vallarta. Plus there was a big cockroach on the top of the wall near the ceiling and when I reported they didn’t even apologize instead they almost accused me of bringing them with me and offered me fumigate all my stuff to get rid of the problem, for all the money spent here not worth it.

Years. The best staff in Mexico. Most of them we know. The sea and storms in summer months has been hard on the beach. The increase in cost since covid is understandable. And still good value as an all inclusive. The mix staying there is half local families with children. Half expats like us and tourists from Canada. A handful of Americans and europeans. It is the mix we love.

All staff, without exception, were wonderful - from housekeeping staff to the omelette cook. I liked that the property provided a quiet, adult only pool area. Our room was large and quite comfortable. The shower was hot. The sit down dinner in Canoa was excellent. Not great value for money. Because of my Booking Level 3, I requested an upgrade but they did not appear to know what I was talking about. The price quoted on Booking.com was originally in Canadian dollars. This price was converted to USD and again to Mexican pesos. Each time we lost money due to poor bank rates. Had I known, I would have booked using Spanish and paid with a Mexican debit card. Our winters are spent in Mexico and we only travel with pesos. When I asked at the front desk to give me change for a $500 Peso note for tips, I was told they could not do it and that they would only change Canadian or USD. However, when I paid for a birthday cake for my husband at the front desk in pesos, they managed to give me change in pesos contradicting what I was told earlier. Room furnishings in Block 4 (adult only) were old. I would not use the Rústico dressers. The sofa was worn and covered to make somewhat presentable. The room, 4312, had resident pigeons nesting in the AC unit making a horrible mess daily and, therefore, the deck was unusable. The cleaning lady did a great job cleaning it every day but one could not sit on the balcony because of the daily bird droppings. The food was adequate in the buffet. The drinks were typical watered down all-inclusive unknown brand. The wine was barely drinkable.

Authentic and on the beach Beds were not so comfortable

The staff was excellent. They worked tirelessly. The dining staff were literally running at times. New staff was being trained. To begin with, no one from the hotel ever responded to any of the messages I sent through Booking.com. Especially after the hurricane/tropical storm just a few weeks before arrival. It was next to impossible to find front desk staff that spoke English well enough to help us with simple questions (eg. Can we still use facilities after check out/while waiting for airport transfer). After shift change in the late afternoon, English speakers were gone. The hotel is "tired". Beds are new and great; furniture not as much. Doors don't close well, etc. Towels are fraying. The elevator is building 1 was scary. Would the doors open again? * We did see painters doing touch ups on the building exterior. Food was mediocre. Seldom hot; usually warm/cool. We settled on omelets and fruit/yogurt/salads as most reliable food choices. It appears as if there is not enough money being put into maintaining the infrastructure. We understand how Covid has affected everyone. The hotel is obviously hiring new staff. And, as mentioned earlier, the staff is giving 150% . But based on our visit this past week, I do not think we would come back to Los Cocos.
