I spent 3 nights at the GH Alexander Hotel and have no complaints. The room was simple but offered everything I needed. Internet was good, breakfast was good enough to get one started. I found the location safe, although it is just a bit outside the tourist center, but it is prob only a 10-15 min walk to the cathedral. Ubers are inexpensive in Guayaquil, so in case you come back after dark, just take one to be safe. A toilet brush would help ;-) and a small fridge would be nice. Otherwise, all was fine.

I had to leave at 1:30a because I had a 4:10a flight but the dinner at the restaurant next to the hotel was wonderful, just had chicken soup - the wine was sub-par but I wouldn't expect better as it was the house wine. When I tried to leave at 1:30a, the hotel was locked down, so I tried to open up the gate so I could get a cab to the airport. A security guard came up to me and shortly thereafter, hotel staff to check me out. I have traveled for 50+ years and for some reason, the hotel staff needed to go up and check my room (this has never happened before) - she came down with a white towel that had a stain on it, likely because I got stuck in a rainstorm for over an hour, my purse and all my clothes were soaked, so I tried to dry my purse on a towel. She insisted I get charged $10 for cleaning the towel -- I agreed reluctantly, thinking "Extortion!!!!" and asked to take the towel with me since I'd obviously paid for it -- she would not give it to me, I paid the charge but felt horrible thinking that both staff members were in on the scam as was the security guard since he would not let me leave without my room being inspected. Great hotel for the price, just a very very unfortunate incident that tainted my last day in Ecuador. Total Extortion. No other explanation as who inspects your room before you can check out???

Our stay was good all around but the bed was too firm for my comfort.

The receptionist was very friendly. The room was comfortable and clean. However the room was right next to the hotel car park and I heard a car alarm going off throughout the night. The shower was cold. Not so bad as it was a hot day but still nice to have in the morning. I paid extra for breakfast and was told the hotel restaurant was closed (!) so waw given a basic boxed one of a sandwich and some fruit and juice. However no coffee was available which was very strange. 7/10

I like that there is 24 security onsite.

Very good

the windows on the room were not out on correctly so they were not able to close totally and it was very noisy

We liked the prompt attention by the front desk. The original room did not match the expectations of what we booked. After mentioning this to the front desk, we were offered a room that met our booked expectation. We were also given complementary breakfast the next morning. The service was exceptional. Highly recommended.

My flights from Ft. Lauderdale always land in the middle of the night so the first time I stayed at the airport Hilton for $100/night but the last 4 trips I've stayed at the Alexander which I found through booking.com. It's a quick cab ride away in the middle of the city and the staff has always been extremely helpful. polite and accommodating. The rooms and hotel are neat, clean and comfortable and all that for about a fifth of what I would pay at the Hilton. I think the Alexander was a great find and will always be my landing spot when flying to Guayaquil n these late night flights.
