Directly beside Hamburg Train Station, this hostel offers colorful rooms and dormitories with private bathrooms. It has a 24-hour reception, a large lounge and a bar with outdoor terrace. Opened in January 2012, Generator Hostel Hamburg is one of the city’s largest hostels. All rooms are fitted with secure key card systems and can be reached by elevator. The Generator Hostel has a lively bar area, where guests can have a drink and meet friends. Guests can enjoy a snack in the cafe or a meal in the bar. Additionally, there are shops and grocery stores within a 5-minute walk of the hostel. Busses and trains are just a 1-minute walk from the Generator Hamburg. There are direct connections to the old town, the Reeperbahn and Hamburg Airport.

It is very close to the central station which we needed for a short stay. The area around the central station is not nice and does not feel safe. I was travelling alone with my 3 children

Pros: - close to the station - dogs allowed Cons: - very small room and bathroom - surroundings station very grim (lots of homeless people, dirty, police sirens active the whole night) - no amenities for dogs + unexpected (not communicated!) cleaning charge of €25,- for the dog

All the staff I interacted with were quite rude. When I first checked in, the lady at the desk gave me zero information, and it felt like I had to pull out the words out of her mouth when I asked her questions. The beds aren't stable even though they seem like it from the look of them. If you get the top bunk and there's another bunk stuck to yours, the wall in between them is so short that you will feel like you're sharing a bed with the other person. Luggage storage is available only if you pay, which I find quite stupid for a hostel. There's no kitchen (or at least no one let me know if there's one). The location is incredibly dodgy even during the day. Even though I'm a solo woman, I normally feel safe enough pretty much anywhere, but the area of the Hbf is just horrible, to say the least.

Nice place, location is super if you travel by train or bus! The system at breakfast. Loooooong queue because of system where only one person at the time can pick what they want. A desk where more people could choose their stuff would be better.

The location is very central and practical, making it easy to get around. The staff were also friendly, and the overall cleanliness of the property was good. The room was uncomfortable, as it was far too hot and the pillow was very poor quality. The shower room was extremely cramped, and the sinks were awkwardly positioned and hard to use for basic mouth care.

Convenient location in terms of being close to the bus and train stations. Cafe and bar on ground floor. The staff are super helpful with all the possible issues! Also, things were clean. Very hot rooms with no AC. Beds with no curtains. The tiniest toilets and showers (it’s literally an airplane toilet room). There was an issue with door cards because of which everyone had to keep going downstairs to reactivate their cards every couple hours, otherwise you are locked out. Takes a bit to do that since the elevators are slow. The location, while convenient, is sketchy.

I like the way it was neat, organised and the staff are really nice and friendly I don't like the fact that I had to stay with the guys in the same room. It was really uncomfortable for me. Please if there's any way that it can be prevented for this my 2 more stay here I'd really love it. I couldn't sleep the whole night and I can't change freely
