No utensils in the kitchen, no soap to wash dishes, no people whatsoever in the hostel (I guess because it was winter), and none of the amenities were available (including no breakfast available although it says there is). Must be quite different in summer, because it was very underwhelming in winter

It was an ok place, more or place for families than pilgrims. The bar just down the road was great.

It looked really nice and had fun activities for families. Tiny toilet and bed bugs

The hostel was very pretty, located in the countryside with nice walks nearby. It was close to super beaches and interesting towns. The pool and sports facilities were very good. The host was very accommodating. It had a nice environmentally friendly feel to it, with interesting information and geological artefacts. More washing up facilities would be good, and would avoid queues at sinks.

The place is in a fantastic location, very beautiful around and the Vias Verdes bike routes recommended by the staff were outstanding. The route that goes from Suances to Rio Corvo is fabulous as is the route from the hostel to Santilliana del Mar. I only had a few days but I'll be back. If you have young kids and a budget to worry about this is ideal. It's a bit like camping but no canvas to put up(with?). The staff are very helpful. There is a canteen but was restricted use due to covid and by prior arrangement. Worth asking about if you don't want to cook. Suances beaches are spectacular, especially on the approach along the River Saja path but the town itself is an ugly overdeveloped crowded concrete hole with some reasonably priced places to eat. About 7 kms away from the hostel along the path, less by car if you can find parking. The village of Cartres is well worth a visit and the outside bar near the social services does excellent local tomato and cream cheese salads, and Tuna fish salad washed down with a local brew called Honkytonk. I didn't use the kitchen but I only saw two electric hot plates so if you were sharing kitchen facilities it might be a question of having to wait your turn but I'm guessing. It might be worth enquiring if you were thinking of cooking on site.
