Its location, overlooking sea, the Japanese food, the helpfulness of the staff, the onsen / bath. We were collected from the bus station and taken back there at the end of our stay, which was much appreciated. The aquarium in the Onsen / bath needed cleaning to be able to watch the fish. We enjoy sleeping on futons but one of them was lumpy and made getting to difficult

Good location to important sites and easy walking distance to the bus terminal which is also a ferry terminal. There were religious figurines in the room

1. great view in the hotel (from the room, onsen or the restaurant). 2. although the hotel is a bit old (like some 40 years?), cleanliness is not a problem. 3. spacious room. 4. great onsen. enjoying it while looking at the sea is relaxing. 5. the semi-buffet breakfast is nicely served. 6. helpful staff. 1. the wifi is not working very well. though the staff lent me an individual router which improved the signal. 2. the long-shape design of the hotel. it takes a long walk from the front desk to the room. you feel a bit weird when you are exhausted. 3. need to drive for 5 minutes to the nearest family mart. (not a problem of the hotel. in fact there are not many convenient stores in hirado.)

The view from my room of the bay and Hirado O-Hashi bridge, as well as the castle at night. Outdoor bath same. Retro “Shōwa” vibe.

Wonderful staff. We stayed for 2 nights with Dinner and breakfast included. We booked the updated western style room. It was as in the photos and had beautiful water views. Lovely food provided in the dining room for dinner and breakfast. Gorgeous outdoor onsen out the back of the hotel AS noted by other guests the hotel has a lot of apparent old water damage in many places ( ceilings/carpets) and everything out of our room was very worn . But would stay again. There are 2 onsens - The large indoor one - with numerous stairs to access, and fish tank on sides. The lovely outdoor one was signed - but completely separate to hotel, so had separate change rooms. Again accessed by numerous stairs.

the hotel is very dated and the bathroom is so tiny.

The very nice view...but that is basically all what I can say we liked. The hotel is very old and in general in poor condition. Although the bedroom is of a good size, the bathroom was tiny and the worst that I have experienced. Very uncomfortable to use. Besides the beds, nowhere to sit and the tatami area was also uneven when walking on it. The hotel only provides set dinners which have to be reserved in advance. We prefer to choose what we want to eat thus forced to take a taxi to go into town to eat dinner. Access to our bedroom with our 2 suitcases had to be done though the staff elevator and a very messy area. Finally, the onsen facilities were quite poor to say the least...The hotel needs a throughout renovation...

Pluses for this hotel - wonderful views and all rooms have a view! Such a friendly, helpful staff. We were not sure where the room for breakfast was and the lady at the front desk walked us to it which involved going upstairs and down a hallway! Fabulous traditional breakfast and the staff were very helpful in explaining how to eat dishes we were unfamiliar with. We rented a private onsen and it was wonderful with great views- we rented one of the open air ones. Overall we have had a wonderful stay. I love Hirado and would come back to this hotel. Some of our party speak some Japanese but the staff spoke enough English that along with Google translate, English speakers would do fine! Minuses - the hotel needs updating - a little run down and the beds were not great - probably would have been better to sleep on the futons but we aren’t that spry anymore. The restaurant on site was not open anymore. Our rooms smelled of cigarette smoke

The building is very old.

the location is good. easy to find. the property is old. it doesn’t have an elevator from 1st floor. so you either have to drag the luggage to 2nd to catch the elevator or use the staff elevator. There is no shampoo the day I was there. only a small soap.

location is great. right on the sea front, close to hirado castle etc everything was so old. the hotel is very retro, and that gives it some kind of charm, but to be honest, I don’t think the facilities have been renewed since the hotel opened(probably 40+ years ago). And to be really honest, it is passed its use by date. The owners should really knock it down and rebuild. It’s kindof cheeky charging people to stay in rooms where the fridge, bathroom etc look at least 40 years old... and hardly anything works. That said the staff were all really great and the hot springs were decent.

It's a special place where time stood still, you feel back in the bubble years of Japan. Unfortunately, the facilities in the Hotel are quite 'ancient', that can be charming in one way but on the other hand it felt a bit unsafe in a country with earthquakes. I was not surprised that the Hotel was used as a film set during my time there, it's a bit of a strange old fashioned place, a monument almost. If you want to stay here you have to like this old charm and it is not cheap either. The breakfast and dinner were delicious and the staff is very friendly. The facilities are too old, especially the Onsen is run down. The Aquarium with real fish and a big turtle swimming by while you wash your hair is quite weird but also not appropriate nowadays I believe. The elevator is old and feels unsafe and all the carpets and curtains are stained and dirty.
