Silks Place Yilan

We booked the Fantasy Castle room for my 5yo son and in terms of the main attraction (the ability to "rent" his own car for the stay), it lived up to expectations. Car selection was quite good and my son loved driving the car around the hotel corridors and having his own "key". Unfortunately it rained pretty much our entire stay so could only go to the outdoor Driving School area for a couple hours, which my son enjoyed as well. The free snacks, juices, and coffee for the family were also a nice touch, as were the L'occitane room amenities. The availability of memory foam pillows was also nice. For adults, the GT simulator is a nice way to go for your own drive. Unfortunately, for the price you pay, generally the experience for adults didn't meet expectations. Firstly, there were several things that were simply not clean in our room, including the kids step stool (had hairs), round table (sticky and when we wiped it with a wet tissue, was quite gross). Secondly the bed is very soft. Thirdly when we called housekeeping for hair conditioner, they simply said there wasn't any and could only be bought at a local convenience store. The breakfast included at Mix Gourmet was plentiful but lacked the quality and taste you would expect paying this much for a hotel in Yilan (not even in Taipei). But look, we came for my son to be able to drive as much as he wanted, and so for the main attraction, Silks Yilan delivered and my son had a great time. It's just unfortunate that the experience for the adults did not match that same level of quality.

Breakfast was great. The dinner buffet has increased in number of items since the last time visited. The kids enjoyed driving the mini power-wheels cars around the 9th floor. The only downside with staying on the 9th floor is the sound of the cars. Some of my family did not enjoy hearing the cars moving around the hallway.

The breakfast buffet was amazing, lots of different foods and individually made items (omelets, waffles, etc), of western and Taiwanese cuisine. The pools were fantastic, lots of different temperatures. Bring a swim cap, otherwise you have to purchase one. (Idea : offer guests a free disposable shower cap instead, like other hotels). The reason you go to this hotel is for the kid stuff : huge slide, ball pit, bouncey house, battery powered cars throughout the hotel and in the pavilion, movie theaters and simulated play station cars; and kids club. There is also a library! Snacks and drinks throughout! We were placed on the top floor, but my daughter is 6---so she was disappointed not to be on 3rd and 4th floors where the cars and tracks were. No one clarified this with us, so we just left lost and disappointing. There was no acknowledgment or recognition of this at all (poor customer service). All kids get a welcome gift, which was denied to us. Kinda disappointing.

Convenience — it’s directly connected via a lift to a high-end mall next door. Freshly blended fruit juice at breakfast is great. Friendly and helpful front-desk staff. We had very high expectations of the hotel based on the reviews but we didn’t really enjoy the stay after all. Chose the fancier room where kids could directly drive/park their vehicle outside the room and it was a nightmare. The sound of the cars was really loud and you could hear it all day 9am-10pm every day. Kids occasionally crash right into your door. Almost impossible to rest/nap. Breakfast was incredibly salty for several dishes. 17-minute walk with children to night market. Nothing much around the hotel / in the city to do when weather is poor.

Practically a kids haven where kids can drive their vehicles freely. The tent in the room is a nice surprise for the kids. Comfortable room for the family. The glass door of the toilet and shower area was too heavy even for adults to slide left and right to enter either the toilet or shower.

The kids absolutely loved the cars and motorcycles. They could have driven them all afternoon and been happy. A little tent in the room and free stuffies were a nice touch. Free cinema tickets and a direct crossing to a mall were super convenient. Indoor kids club/play area only had space for 8 kids which was not enough. At times we had to wait for 30min, which sucks even if we wanted to play with them and not drop them off. The fine print on the Booking was wrong: We counted on using the free car rental from the hotel as described, but upon arrival, we were told it was just for Taiwanese citizens, which made zero sense, so we had to pay for expensive taxis.

A great place for family with kids, kids love driving cars around the hotel. The location is very convenient too, there are shops and restaurants just downstairs. The rooms are a bit old, and the heating aircon does not work very well.

The staff who driving the shuttle bus is excellent. He is very polite and helpful. We met him in train station, he helped us to check the return train ticket and send us to the hotel. Unfortunately, I forgot his name :( Honestly, staffs are excellent. Nothing to complain. But, some service and facility may only good for the guests who stay one night. For us, we stayed 3 nights. We cannot enjoy some services in between 11:00 - 15:00. Such as the game at 6/F., it was totally shut down during said period, it's available from 15:00, from that time, hundreds of guests are coming. It's spend time to queue up. For the car pick up center, it was closed from 11:00 - 15:00, it also not convenience if need service.

Worth the money spent!
