Shining Star Hotel

Everything was clean, personnel was nice and helpful, modern facilities and rooms. View on Ayasofya is also a great bonus (not for all apartments, but was visible from mine) Although overall nice stay and modern facilities, some things were broken (e.g. glass panel on the floor in the lobby, where you see ancient ruins underneath - was not sure if it will not break anytime soon under the person standing/sitting on it in chair during breakfast), glass pots for coffee were all cracked, sink in apartment was modern but wobbly as glue degraded). Breakfasts are almost always the same, although there is something to choose from. Sometimes they add some variety but do not reflect it in the description - e.g. replaces spinach pies with cheese ones while tablet still says “Spinach pie”, which was unfortunate for me as for lactose intolerant person.

The breakfast variety is great. The location is excellent with all the restaurants and famous old town sites nearby! However, the coffee is bland. The bed is too soft for us.

Contemporary, comfortable, clean, and safe hotel located on a quiet side street in the old part of the city and within walking distance of numerous attractions and decent restaurants. Attentive, friendly, and honest staff. A very good breakfast buffet was included with the only issue being exceptionally weak coffee (that was always running out), ironic for a country renowned for its strong brew. This was my second Booking.com week long family reservation where the room was not as promised. I was told by the hotel staff that the error was due to Booking.com misrepresenting the room and mine wasn’t their first complaint. I requested the room that I paid for and was advised it didn’t exist. Numerous attempts to chat with Booking.com promised they were looking into this yet there was no outcome. Someone would respond “we’ll get back to you” and then end the chat due to inactivity. I won’t be booking with Booking again.

The location is especially convenient if you want to see the Sultanahmet neighborhood highlights like Hagia Sophia, the Archeological Museum etc. The breakfast was good, and the rooms clean. Avoid their car service--really unpleasant start to my stay. I arrived at IST late at night, and found the contact person for the car, was told to go wait. Checked with him 10 minutes later and told to wait another 10 minutes, and it seemed like that was just putting me off. Where you have to wait for your so-called reserved car is where there is a long line of available taxis, so I was exhausted and told him I was taking a taxi and did. The taxi incidentally was about 2/3 the rate of the Shining Star "reserved car" and they took credit cards (the SS reserved car has to be paid in cash, adding to the badness of the whole setup). Got to the hotel, and the late night front desk person was furious with me for not waiting indefinitely at the airport, and demanded the payment for the reserved car, which I refused. It was an ugly start to my stay, but I will say that otherwise the hotel room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was fine.

The staff was very professional, helpful and friendly. It is an excellent location to many of the main sites. The hot breakfast items were often cold.

The hotel is very clean(#1 priority) and has an amazing location to everything especially if one intends to use public transportation, the staff was very welcoming and helpful and all the necessities were included. The breakfast might need a little bit of range, but still pretty good.

Exceptional

The location is wonderful. I saw Sophia's from my window. Walking distance to Blue Mosque and most of sightseeing in Sutanahmet. We booked a room for 3 people. It was a bit small for 3 luggage, but that is not a problem. Most of the time, we spent outside anyway. Hairdryer was not working, but lovely personnel fixed it super fast.

Close to everything. Sometimes Noisy at night on the street. Drivers yelling.. trying to start their car/s for a long time. Windows on the street side would be a lot better if it's sound proof.
