Top service. Feel like home

Lovingly restored. Comfortable. Spacious rooms. Personalized service. No pool. No elevator (but staff happy to help with luggage).

Beautiful historical building well suited to a boutique hotel experience. Location was very central to where we needed to go and transport links to the airport are excellent when using the Guatrain. I would recommend the Gautrain - it is safe, clean and fast all at a very reasonable price. Not much to dislike. Perhaps the surrounding area abutting the property are in need of a good power wash. It didn’t bother us but the hotel does not serve alcohol.

Everything was perfect. 100/100

Impressive historical building, exceptional decorated with antiques, wallpapers, art pieces and paintings, boutique home-style hotel, luxury, spacious, at a very good location, very nice breakfast a la carte, you can order whatever you like from a big variety, served in a cosy dining area. The family suite has one bedroom with two king size beds, suitable to accommodate even 4 persons of a family. There is also a nice living room area in the suite and an enormous bathroom with L'Occitane amenities. A welcomed plate with fruits was offered us upon our arrival. I loved everything about my stay. A minibar in the room would be a nice addition. Just a small personal preference: the -so nice- bathrobe felt a bit heavy and oversized for my comfort.

The staff is amazing, well trained and go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. Nothing is too much to ask for and you are always welcomed and served with a smile. The food is excellent. The room exceeded our expectations. We were early for our breakfast as we had an early appointment, and this was absolutely no problem for the staff. Nothing that is worth mentioning as the entire experience / stay was perfect.

Charming place with lots of character parking tight

Very close to the Gautrain station and the Rosebank Mall. Excellent service and luxurious linen and a wonderful bathrobe and slippers. We stayed in the family suite which was very spacious! Added extra is a little buggy that can take you to and from the Mall ! I can definitely recommend it !! Will be back soon Nothing, perfect. Just for noting, no alcohol is served at the bar - but not a problem as there are many restaurants close by

An exceptionally comfortable stay at this beautifully appointed hotel, which I was staying at for the second time. I appreciated the addition of the bar in the renovated lobby, and the opening up of the courtyard for breakfast - both positive changes at the property, since my last visit in 2018. Room and bathroom size are well above average, and the location in Rosebank is hard to beat! There were a couple of fitting related issues in the bathroom, which we brought to the attention of the Manager on duty.

My wife and I stay at the Monarch whenever we are in Johannesburg. It is in a great location, a short walk to shops and restaurants. The hotel is clean and managed well, with a nice hotel restaurant. The rooms are great.

Very unique and comfortable. Had enough space to relax and the staff was very nice
-
Location is excellent- opposite Gautrain and next to Rosebank Mall. Golf cart to drop off at convenient location was great Friendly staff It didn’t feel 5 star at all. Breakfast was either on the terrace ( looked shabby and not “dressed” for breakfast. The restaurant was very stiff and formal.

It was a great deal . It was luxury for a great.
-
What a beautiful art collection! Each room and hall is decorated differently, and the rooms are so beautiful. The staff was amazing and the service impeccable. Walking distance to the mall. Nothing

Its old scbool classic type of hotel. I love that - but if you like contemporary not your style.

What a Gem hidden in the heart of Johannesburg!
-
Great hotel. Clean and with a friendly staff. Great options for restaurants in the area
-
Same beautiful haven, that we love… We feel that a refresh of the interior and decor and art - will be a very good thing to do. Ask yourself what has changed in the hotel, in the last 3 years? Our answer is, nothing. Refresh the colours, refresh the deployment of the artworks

This was a shot stop over and I wish I could have stayed longer. Beautiful, secure, old-school hotel with exceptional, friendly service. Being an older building, there are fewer wall outlets than you may be used to. Don't expect a USB charing port at the desk. Very comfortable bed gave me a good night's sleep. The HVAC is powerful but takes a moment to figure out which control to manipulate. The beautiful shower has multiple heads and handles, so it also take a little-trial-and error to figure out what turns on what. Breakfast was good and reasonably priced. A continental buffet is there if you are in a rush, and the mushroom and cheese omelet I had was delicious.

A few other things to mention: Get rid of the instant coffee. Stop being cheap and put in a Nespresso machine like other hotels. The room was over sprayed with room freshener. The smell was so strong I had to leave the window open half the night. Reception agreed that the smell was strong and attempted to move me to another STANDARD ROOM, but it was facing the street. Perhaps, if I had been in the room I reserved, it would not have been an issue. Stay away from this place!
