improvements Athanas has made are absolutely wonderful. Chef Emanual is the best. Couldn't stay longer

Great quiet location. Excellent food and very friendly host.

Athanas was an exceptional host, taking the phrase “make yourself at home” to a new level. We stayed one night before starting our Safari and he was so hospitable: offering to wash our clothes, drive us to dinner and make us breakfast in the morning. Our room was clean and the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. Could not recommend staying here enough!

Simple, but solemn place. Extra friendly and helpful host who is working hard to make the place even better and make everyone feel like at home.

This review is for the "2 king beds" villa (the cheapest option; there were only two of us). Facilities: Big guest house, which we had to ourselves. VERY cute and peaceful setting. Enclosed, secured compound is totally safe. I enjoyed bird-watching from the porch with coffee. Athanas is very friendly. We paid for dinner our first night and it was great (although, like all Tanzanian hospitality, he made far too much for us! haha). The wi-fi was intermittent, but that is very normal for Tanzania. Location: very convenient for Lake Manyara or Ngorongroro treks! Difficult to find; the location of the home is incorrect on Google Maps; it is about 100m away from its true location, and the primary access road is not on Google Maps at all. Both of these problems made it difficult to coordinate with our drivers. Not unsanitary, but needs extra cleaning between guests. The attached bathroom had water stains on the mirror, and the floor needed mopping (we thought it was just stained, but we could rub it off with our feet, so it was dirt). The room gets hot; we left the window open, but then lots of mosquitos get in. A fan would help.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent chef. Arranged taxi booking for us at good rate. Nice facilities for family. Within easy walking distance of main street. Somewhat expensive relative to other places we stayed in Tanzania (much more expensive for 4 people than for 2 people). Difficult to find for Tanzanian driver. Internet shut off mid-evening although we understand that they are addressing this. Don't accept credit cards although Booking.com states otherwise.

I was visiting as a Board member of a non-profit, Powering Potential, which is implementing computer labs in schools within the Karatu District. Although my time spent in the villa was limited, as I was busy visiting the local schools, Athanas was incredibly friendly and his chef had delicious meals ready at my convenience every day. I had a great experience during my stay here!

The owner Mr. Athanas and the Chef Mr. Emmanual are truly good people. Mr. Athanas was on hand at all times to solve any problem that may arise, with the house or any personal travel issues. He was also a wealth of knowledge of the area, the people, and history. He is a very soft-spoken spiritual young man with a pleasing personality. He is working hard to improve the Villa by June if all goes well. We wish him the best and can't wait to see the pictures as the work progresses and visit again after the new and improved Ngorongoro Villa and Restaurant is complete. We recommend you include this when visiting Karatu. The Villa is a large 3 bed/3 bath (2 ensuites) house, perfect for a family or a group of friends. I found the neighborhood walkable, some villas had lovely gardens, and I felt safe, an early morning JAMBO, always helps. Chef Emmanual could be an award-winning Chef, all of the meals were superb, and every day it was more extraordinary than the last. We spent 19 days in Africa, traveling from Tanzania to Zanzibar, and by far Chef Emmanual, was the best and we enjoyed our best meals at Ngorongoro Villa and Restaurant. Not really a bad thing, but Chef Emmanual does not know how to cook for only two people, we had to keep telling him not to prepare so much, LOL. All of the meals were great we gave him the nickname "Chop-O-Matic", he was always preparing something wonderful.

Best food in Africa with an amazing chef..the host makes you feel like family..and convenient location to ngorongoro park

They have a kitchen within a villa with tilled walls, everything was very clean. John the chef was great, quality foods served on buffet we truly had a lifetime experience... Totally recommend.

Location was not indicated through any signboard, owner needs to work on that. Food was very good, compliments to the Chef Mr.John. The stay was cool and calm, no disturbance whatsoever. Cleanliness was lacking. Approach to the location from the Main Road was quite bumpy and dusty. The whole town is dusty and people like me allergic to dust, will find the going tough.
