This was my first trip to Nepal, and this hotel gave me an amazing experience and a wonderful first impression of the country. All the charges were clearly explained with no hidden fees. On my last day, I had to leave early to catch a bus. The owner kindly prepared breakfast according to my schedule, even though they didn’t have to. My wife and I booked Hotel Family Ties after researching many places to stay in Kathmandu. We were not disappointed! As many reviews noted, the rooms were clean, well maintained, and in perfect working order. Narayan was a wonderful host, helping us book taxis as needed, personally transporting us to and from the airport, and generally being of service for any advice or needs. As sometimes happens, we also needed some flexibility because of weather delays in starting our trek - this was no problem as we booked additional nights. We also arrived during Dashain and were graciously invited to celebrate with Narayan and his family. We had not booked a place to stay post-trekking, but after how happy we were with our choice, we booked for 2 nights for after our trek. We highly recommend Hotel Family Ties!

Spacious for a single room with a shower, large closet is one thing very helpful, best of all is the view from the balcony, a tiny table with 2 chairs perfectly fit, so my friend and I enjoyed breakfast every morning, by the way breakfast is included and always great! The one and only but not an issue for me is that I stayed at 5th floor without elevator, but it is actually perfect for hikers to train yourself before the real one.

Narayan and his staff cheerfully provided all of our expectations. The airport shuttle was a cost effective travel choice. Our flight was delayed and Narayan and the driver tracked our flight. It was wonderful to see our name in a sea of unknown faces upon arriving in an unknown country. The rooftop garden area was an exceptional place to share our last delicious breakfast in Nepal. I highly recommend Narayan and his staff at Hotel Family Ties!

Narayan has waited for me outside the international arrival doors at the airport, made travel arrangements so I could sit on a luxury bus with single seats on one side (no one in a seat beside sleeping on my shoulder!), been up at 3:30am to walk me with my bags to catch a long distance Jeep at a specially arranged pickup spot nearby, listened and took the time to plan a trek suitable for an 'older' single woman and exchanged my money at an higher rate than the money changers in Thamel. I am so thankful for his many kindnesses over the years. The Family Ties Hotel itself is very comfortable with attached bathrooms, balconies, the best showerheads, delicious meals and a great location just out of the main traffic and noise of Thamel. There is a lovely rooftop sitting area and a garden area on the main floor along with the restaurant inside. It's also convenient to have a wonderful massage at the Seeings Hands blind massage center just a short distance away. To me, the Hotel Family Ties is 'Home away from home' in Kathmandu. I feel certain you will agree!

I had a great time here. Excellent location just near Thamel, good breakfast and attentive staff. They helped me with the bus ticket to Besisahar and kept my luggage safe while on trail.
