After 3 breakfasts and dinners I considered the room attendant a friend. Thank you! The staff were all perfection in thoughtfulness and privacy. I have never been so relaxed. They arranged a 2 hours private walking tour with a retired engineer who answered all my nerdy questions and told me more of the towns' history and culture than anything online or in books. Every detail of my room and common rooms were deep clean. Not a spec of dust to be found. The library has a treasure of working antique amplifiers - the 1930's antique phone in my room also was fully functional. The hot springs bath could have been hotter. I was still enjoyable. I'm sure with the original 1191 bath structure, which has a single pool for the ladies - the temperature probably needed to be enjoyable for all. I did not try the private bath - maybe that was hotter.

This was an excellent ryokan experience. The location was great, right near all the shops in the Arima town. The staff is very welcoming, and the rooms are very comfortable. The food is incredible and authentically Japanese. And the baths were the best I've experienced in Japan. I stayed one night and visited the baths three times. It's really warm, and the water is rust-colored from the natural minerals in the volcanic hot spring. I felt relaxed and rejuvenated every time.

This place is absolutely gorgeous! It was our first time in a traditional ryokan-style hotel, and our family of 4 really enjoyed it. The hotel staff was very helpful and explained how everything works so we didn't have to guess. I ordered a dinner on our first night and it was so beautiful, from the food to the serving dishes. The service was impeccable as well! The breakfast was also absolutely gorgeous and delicious. I told them ahead of time about food restrictions (no beef, chicken, or pork), and they were very accommodating. The onsen was magical and our whole family used it several times. Will absolutely come back to this town next time I'm in the area. The bus station is a 2-minute walk to the hotel. Although the food was amazing, we were absolutly stuffed with so much more food to spare! It was a bit excessive and wasteful in my opinion. That's my one and only complaint.

The staff was helpful and friendly. The property was lovely and well-maintained overall, preserving its ryokan authenticity. Dinner was excellent and included a large variety of seasonal and regional food (we particularly appreciated the sawara). Portions were adequate, leaving us satisfied without feeling too heavy. The wagyu beef was slightly overcooked for our taste -- still (upper) medium-rare, but we typically prefer a bit more medium-rare for this beef cut. Nonetheless, the meat was tender and flavourful. The check-out was set at 10 am, which unfortunately was rather early and we wished we could have stayed a bit longer to enjoy the property. (We also recognise that cleaning the rooms requires longer than typical hotels, so we understand the earlier check-out).

Great atmosphere. Fantadtic and delicate food. The hot spring was really enjoyable, too.

We had a wonderful time staying at Onsen Tocen Goshobo. Staff members are cordial and helpful. They greeted us at the door and carried our suitcases to the room. Ambience & traditional look/atmosphere was the main reason we picked your facility over others It would’ve been nice to not have a non-Japanese as the front desk receptionist —- because that totally ruined the traditional Japanese experience for us

Dinner and breakfast were lovely and focused on Japanese food. Rooms were exceptionally beautiful and relaxing. Onsen was magical and therapeutic. Arima is a lovely visit.

Cozy surroundings in a historical building. Really great public onsen, where women and men are separated by a small wall so you can go with your partner and still be separated in men/women. The restaurant is really cozy too and the food was amazing! Great staff!

Our shower and 'private' onsen faced directly towards a parking lot and some walking paths. We were several floors up, but if I stood at the doorway I could read license plate numbers so it wasn't that far away.

Phenomenal service! Each person we interacted with went above and beyond for us. we loved the dinner and breakfast! Onsen was very clean.

The history and beauty if every inch of the property is breathtaking. The room, the halls, the service, and the onsen were all top notch. The quiet and softness of everything requires you to be quiet and soft as well. I loved this because I felt like I was showing respect to the property and the guests and the staff. If you can’t be quiet and respectful then you shouldn’t stay here. The building is old and the walls are thin.
