The Jesselton Hotel

Super clean, great location. Internet was super fast - I was able to work without a problem. We had a couple of problems with the room when we checked in - the fridge didn’t work and one of the power points was faulty. This was resolved within the hour and got new fridge and an extension for the power point.

Location is great, on Gaya street in China town. Street market on last night. Hotel itself is perfectly adequate. No frills as such, but comfortable well appointed rooms For the price, not a lot really.

My husband and I stayed at the Jesselton for three nights in April. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the hotel is in a very good location for walking around the town. Our room (201) was large, clean, quiet, and pleasant, and was in keeping with the heritage look. The bed was comfortable, with bedside tables and good reading lights. The small refrigerator in the room kept our drinks well-cooled. The balcony was Juliet style (not one to sit out on.) The large windows let in lovely sunlight, and the blackout curtains worked very well. The bathroom had a proper door (thank you!) and the shower pressure was good. (The hotel would do well to remove the old bathtub.) The ‘light boards’ are kind of funky, but we got use to them. * Renovations made to the lobby area have removed all traces of the lobby's former elegance. This includes the Mountbatten Lounge, named in honor of Lady Edwina Mountbattern, who stayed at the hotel and held receptions here. The historic photos are still on the walls, however the lounge no longer reflects its previous colonial-era grace. Sadly, it is now a cold, utilitarian space of gray & white, without the oriental rugs, soft chairs, or bar; all the original warmth removed. * Breakfast was not included in our room rate, and we were surprised by the high cost to include it.

Lovely colonial look and good location. Staff is friendly. It was a little noisy during the night if a scooter would pass in the street.

There are no power controls near the door inside the room; The master power controls are on the bedside tables. This is not user-friendly because I have to go across the room in darkness to turn on the lights. There are 3 electricity outlets in the room but all of them are blocked by lamps or tables. Therefore, I had to call a house keeping staff to find the outlets for me. No breakfast is included although the price is higher than most other hotels with breakfasts.

Middle of town and lots of activities at the door steps Nil

We stayed in the newer more modern wing of the hotel. Bed was comfortable. Friendly staff remembered our faces and our bags when we collected them from storage. Close to our favourite cafes and restaurants!

The Jesselton is charmingly old fashioned and we enjoyed our stay there. It's really well located on Jalan Gaya. The room was comfortable and clean. Absolutely loved the piano in the lobby which I had a bit of a play on. I wouldn't bother with the cafe next door for breakfast - not great and overpriced. There are so many other good places to go close by.

Location and colonial charm. The location is the best you can have. Bathrooms need maintenance. The shower head is spraying water from both ends. Curtain not long enough to keep water in. Bathtub surround collects water and it the streams to one corner outside the tub creating a large pool by the door. Light control panel only worked by the right side bed.

The location was perfect. The room were outdated. Needs some refurbished.

The staffs are friendly and helpful. What I didn't expect is the location of the premise is within the walking distance to the Suria Sabah, local eateries, banks, pharmacies, convenience stores and etc.

Peaceful but strategically placed for city centre. High standard of facilities for a remarkable price. Great bed, air conditioning and bathroom. Nothing. It's very good.
