Kyoto Granbell Hotel

The location was amazing. And the vibe too To tourist but perfect location

Great location! It’s an easy walk to many restaurants and all the hidden gems Kyoto has to offer. The rooms are small, but no smaller than we expected for Japan. Streets are very narrow outside the hotel but the taxi drivers are skilled and competent. Walking in the vicinity, requires some looking out for vehicles. And making sure to walk with the flow of other walking traffic. Which could be on either side of the road. Everything was clean and well maintained. The only thing that stood out was the large leather-covered headboard around the king-size bed, which could use some new upholstery. Otherwise, the hotel was very nice. The breakfast buffet had plenty of options, and the staff was friendly and easy to communicate with in English. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would stay here again. It’s a great place to use as a home base while exploring Kyoto. Just don’t expect much of a view, our room overlooked electrical wires and concrete, but apparently other rooms had garden videos.

Lovely! Has a stylish lounge with pleasant perks like free tea/coffee, recommendations for things to do in Kyoto, etc. The onsen is gorgeous and very clean. Easy to do laundry on site. Room was small but that's to be expected in Japan. Bed was very comfortable. Really enjoyed coming back here after long sightseeing days in Kyoto. Can't beat the location in Gion -- you're exactly where you want to be! Breakfast staff was a little grumpy and we could hear people pulling out breakfast chairs scraping the floor (our room was just underneath). But very minor gripes, our stay was very nice.

nice breakfast offering, friendly staff, great value and location. on-site laundry available the hotel is showing signs of wear and tear. because the hotel is reducing rates by giving guest more of a self-service experience, the hallways stay in a state of housecleaning for bigger chunks of the day. the windows on the rooms can't be opened. The area is great for seeing the sites, but there is also a lot of tourist foot traffic.

Bartender was not very knowledgeable about drinks, front desk staff chased us down the street after check out and got angry because we forgot to return room keys

Everything we enjoyed for location and the onsen was nice also. Staff was helpful. Not sure why not enough breakfast food. To many soups and lunch food for our taste. But I realize it must be part of culture casue many places serve soups and dinner time food for breakfast. But overall I still think hotle was a 10. Thank you for all the help. We enjoyed Kyoto for the two days we were there.

The Granbell was great. I did my research about 5 months in advance of our trip and for staying in Gion, this is a great option in terms of value and location. I think the dryers being too small to dry effectively (other people had to do run it back to back to back and their laundry was still wet) was the only con, though there are several laundry facilities nearby that are cheap and quick and easy.

Absolutely perfect location and not only beautiful hotel but very clean, friendly staff. The onsen is a BIG plus to relax and refresh after a long day of walking. We loved our stay and would recommend to stay at here.

Excellent location, very helpful staff There was no comfortable chairs to sit in the room. They were hard and low to the floor. Terrible coffee in the room. Odd smell from the bathroom. Weird pajamas.

Kyoto Granbell Hotel was an excellent base for exploring Kyoto. The location is perfect, with many of the city's attractions, restaurants and shops within easy walking distance. The staff were friendly, welcoming and particularly helpful in arranging our luggage forwarding, which made travelling on to our next destination much easier. Our room was larger than expected, well equipped and spotlessly clean. The hotel strikes a great balance between modern comfort and Japanese design, creating a tranquil atmosphere that provided a welcome retreat after busy days sightseeing. We would happily stay here again. The breakfast buffet was good, with a nice selection of Japanese and international dishes. As Western travellers, we would have appreciated a few more Western breakfast options, but there was still plenty of choice and the quality was good.
