Repeat visit to Hotel Il Verde, didn't disappoint. the complimentary Happy Hour at the end of the day is a great opportinity to rest, regroup before going out in the evening. Being on main bus route back to Kyoto Station is a benefit.

The hotel’s location is great, and the ‘happy hour’ is a big plus.

My stay at Hotel IL Verde Kyoto was disappointing overall, the conditions fell below even modest expectations. The room was extremely small, far more cramped than anticipated. It felt difficult to move around comfortably, especially with luggage. Cleanliness was also an issue, as the walls had visible dirt and marks that made the space feel poorly maintained. The bathroom was another drawback. The toilet was so compact that it resembled something you’d expect to find on a boat rather than in a hotel. It made using the space uncomfortable and impractical. To be fair, this is a budget option, and pricing likely reflects that. However, even at a lower price point, basic cleanliness and a reasonable level of comfort should still be expected. Unfortunately, this stay did not meet those standards.

    Nice hotel

I think attentive staff and convenient location is the best thing about this hotel. The hotel looks run down, it has definitely seen better days. The first thing you see stepping into the elevator is the dirty carpet. This is an easy fix that will not break a bank, but will definitely make the place look so much nicer. Small things like that could definitely be improved. The hotels needs a renovation.

Friendly staff Breakfast food selection wasn't the best. And the coffee machine ran out

This is an excellent hotel in so many ways. Modern. Clean. Comfortable rooms and beds. Friendly, courteous, and professional staff. Great selection of breakfast items. Excellent happy hour each and every day starting at 6pm. Great location within 10 minute walking distance to Kyoto Station. All at a very reasonable rate. Nothing; we loved everything about this hotel!

The breakfast was of good value and had a large variety of items. The staff is very eager to assist with anything you may have questions about. I just wish they had French Vanilla creamer for my coffee, lol. The onsite 5th floor restaurant was amazing and I give it a 5 star, money well spent to enjoy a dinner with my son and his girlfriend. Beds need to be a little softer and the pillows are too hard.

    Nothing, would stay again ?

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had in Japan. Normally I ignore low ratings because many complaints are exaggerated, but in this case the negative reviews are accurate. Next to the hotel is some kind of business that appears to ferment wood with chemicals. The smell is extremely strong & unpleasant. My room faced this building, so the odor came directly through the window. I informed the front desk and asked if anything could be done and was simply told “No.” The hotel clearly knows about the problem but does nothing about it and I was an extended stay guest. If the hotel was upfront & honest they would give me the opportunity to cancel at no charge or just not book at all. However this hotel is deceptive. Breakfast service was equally frustrating. On the first morning I asked for a bowl for cereal & yogurt. The employee didn’t know what I was talking about, insisting the hotel didn’t have bowls—even though I was using a translation app. Eventually another employee knew what I was asking for and found one. On the second morning I arrived five minutes early for breakfast & asked if I could sit and have a coffee while waiting. I was told I had to stand and wait until the exact start time before being allowed to sit, even though the breakfast area is used as a common seating space during the rest of the day. Other issues during my six-night stay: • Front desk staff are rigid and unwilling to solve problems. The default answer is simply “No.” • Staff seemed unprepared to deal with international guests. • The hotel advertises mountain views, but my room looked directly at a brick wall. • My room was only cleaned twice in six nights which is fine however bedding wasn’t changed and used towels were just folded and put back. • Wi-Fi barely works in the common areas. • Only two hangers provided in the room. In Japan the idea of meiwaku is meant to not cause trouble or inconvenience to others.

    large room, great location

  • Engine customer Jan 2026

Location was not near other restaurants or shopping.

  • Engine customer Jan 2026

It's an affordable hotel and it's right across the street from a nice garden! The staff was also very friendly (they let us leave our bags before check-in and after check-out) and the room itself was nice. They also let you have have 1-hour of free drinks in the evening. The location was just a little far from the station, but nothing too ridiculous. It just feels longer in the summer. And I don't count this against the hotel (since it is not their fault), but there is a strong smell coming from a nearby building that can be a little off-putting.

Everything! The location was great; bus very near, train 10 minute walk. The staff was sooooo friendly!! Free Happy Hour drinks were nice. Breakfast was good. Deluxe room was perfect and spacious!! Bed was extremely firm, but still comfortable. Food available for purchase (including gelato). Would stay here again!

I loved the staff. They were all kind and friendly. Our room was lovely and clean and the breakfast was fantastic. So many different options for breakfast. This is a great location. Walkable to so many attractions. Nothing!

  • Engine customer Dec 2025

Very mediocre breakfast. There's no excuse to eat this food in a city like Kyoto.

The staff stared at us a bit and it made us feel uncomfortable. I also found hair in my food and the staff didnt seem to care much about it.
