The staff was amazing, the service was so great, I honestly felt bad for how much they did for us. They are kind, speak english quite well, and are very friendly. The room was beautiful and clean, as well as the bath. The bath is also tattoo friendly. My only "disappointments" were; 1. The curvew. Due to safety, you have to enter your hotel at 23:00, as they will lock the doors then. So after that you can't enter until the morning. 2. I think either I made a mistake, or something happened, because I was under the assumption we could eat in the morning and evening there. But when we asked, they said no. I couldn't understand the explanation. So we ate outside, plenty of options, but still a missed experience.

Since this was my first stay at a ryokan, I was nervous about feeling out of place or not abiding by expected behaviors. Within seconds of entering the building, however, I felt like I was being welcomed as an old friend. The staff were exceedingly helpful and friendly, and the room was huge (by Japanese standards) and very well appointed. As a bonus, the location is perfect - steps away from Nishiki Market and about a ten-minute walk from the Gion district. All was great

Authentic, clean, tidy Shadow side

Kagihei is a lovely quiet family-run ryokan tucked off the street from Nishiki market. It is within fantastic walking distance to the market and surrounding restaurants, and reasonable walking distance to public transportation. We enjoyed using the public bath in the evenings, which was often empty.

Friendly staff and great traditional experience.

Wonderful, gracious hosts. This was the biggest room we had during our entire stay in Kyoto. Very close to the market as well but in a quiet enough street that you don't feel overwhelmed. They provided a wonderful room, robes, slippers, tea, and cookies. Bathroom had a separate toilet, as well as a bathtub. Loved this experience.

The atmosphere was authentic and peaceful. The location was ideal. The onsen was very nice and the water pressure was the best ever! I wish I could take the bathroom home with me.

We had a great experience staying here. Super nice people. Awesome location. We added the breakfast one day and really enjoyed it (we also liked that it didn't have to be done every day we stayed).
-
Everything. The staff were super nice and friendly. The proprietor of the establishment was very welcoming and knowledgeable. The room was beautiful and comfortable and amenities were outstanding. Highly reccomend the breakfast to start your day. That I couldn't stay longer, and for personal reasons unable to enjoy the onsen.

The rooms are large and comfortable, the location is excellent. My room was spotless, the bathroom was nice and the staff brought a pot of hot green tea everyday. I did wish they provided a coffee option. I would stay here again if given the opportunity just for the location alone.

Large comfortable room and a wonderful breakfast.

Good location, wonderful staff, wonderful breakfast, everything was great

It was central to everything. Great restaurants, shopping, transportation. The beds were comfortable. The room was clean. The hot tea and little cookies and cold green tea in the refrigerator were appreciated. The hotel was quiet. The pillows were not too comfortable as there were too flat.
-
Staff extremely friendly, courteous and helpful. Provided suggestions on local restaurants and transportation. Traditional Japanese breakfast was amazing, delicious, and contributed to my whole Japan visit. Grateful to have experienced traditional sleeping and eating arrangements. My room's patio door/window was 3 floors directly above the outdoor smoking area, so smoke from guests smoking outside drifted into my room leading me to close the patio door on beautiful weather days.

Just amazing. The service was insane. Great experience, epic location. 10/10

The only thing is that you have to be back by 11 pm every night.

This Ryokan was absolutely fantastic. I used to live in Japan so I’ve stayed at many of them. The location was one block from everything you want to get to. The people who ran it were fantastic. The Japanese style breakfast was epic and a very, very reasonable price for what we received. The bedding was like sleeping on a cloud. We are ordering the bedding when we get home. We did not try the Japanese bath because I’ve done so many times and my teenagers did not want to. I would highly recommend this place and the staff were amazing. The owners both spoke English fluently as well. Although that is never a criteria for me when traveling. It was all exceptional

Great room and delicious food. The public bath is small but I always had it to myself. The location is a bit bus. It wasn’t noisy but required navigating through crowds.
-
I was able to get my best sleep here since arrival to Japan. The place is very near Nishiki Market, a gem of a ryokan. The owners and staff are super friendly and nice. The daily breakfast was nutritious and delicious. The public bath was awesome after a long day's exploring the city. Would definitely return. None

We had the best time here! Very close to many attractions in Kyoto and a super spacious traditional Japanese room with all the comforts you could need! Fresh cold and hot tea provided everyday with cookies, and the onsen was lovely! The staff also gave us great recommendations for food and shopping!
