Loved that it was in a quiet part of town but still close to all of the action in Kyoto. Our rooms were on the first floor, very convenient and the staff was fantastic! n/a

Good location. Larger room with kitchenette. The electronic key had to be reset or replaced every time we used it. I don’t know what the problem was. Very annoying.

Good value, quiet location in a real neighborhood We did have a hot water heater failure, and despite knowing what the problem was, the hotel staff and handyman were in-equipped and unable to fix it

I would use Stay Sakura again and would recommend to others. I chose this property from multiple Stay Sakura locations in Kyoto for the laundry room, worked out well in that respect for our 3-week trip to Japan. For shopping and choices of restaurants, I would've liked somewhere closer to Gion however, or somewhere easier to get to and from Kyoto station. Most "stay" type of hotels are self-service or hostel-like, this Stay Sakura chain is way more. The front-desk is staffed during the day and for checking-in and out. Good amenities, everything is supplied like a top-tier hotel, green tea bags, bottles of water, toothbrush, toothpaste, hairbrush, hairdryer, even laundry detergent. Beds and pillows are comfortable. The interactions with the front-desk staff are the best, I really enjoyed the long and pleasant chats. Minh-san is very efficient and knowledgeable. Kawai-san is a darling and delightful with all sorts of suggestions for places to see and best shops to buy Kyoto specialties The room size I would say is less than average for Kyoto, quite small. While there is a small work surface for my laptop, I would've liked a small table to eat at. One big criticism would be the design of the kitchenette, probably the dumbest I've come across anywhere, the designer has absolutely no common sense. The drawers are way low at floor level below the sink, so is the microwave, you have to crawl on the floor to use, I could take 4 stars off the rating for this alone. Then while the front desk staff are pleasant and always greeting guests going in and out, it was very weird to have these random guys hanging around the small lobby with their laptops. Who are they? guests or hotel staff? They don't seem to do anything and just starred at people going in and out. So they are "managers" but what were they doing there? watching the girls working? Very weird! Note the company is inconsistent as far as laundry facilities, and this information is not clear on their website, takes quite a bit of time-consuming digging. Some locations have a washer/dryer in each room, some locations have a common laundry room (number of machines not specified) and some locations do not have altogether, so do make sure or ask just to be clear.

walkable, comfortable, clean, polite & kind staff. bigger room than other cities in japan. a bit expensive for quite bare bones. window looked out to nothing. room on first floor, could hear doors opening and closing as was close to staircase.

We got a 2 room adjoining apartment for the 5 days we were in Kyoto. As a couple it made all the difference in starting our stay in Japan. We felt we could spread out and have our own space. Big bonus. We each had our own bathroom. And this hotel's Japanese style baths are wonderful. The rooms also have a little kitchenettes with mini fridge and microwave. No coffee maker but hit up your local 7/11, buy a few bottles of Starbucks in a bottle to stock up in your mini fridge. When you want your morning Joe pour a cup, warm in microwave and you have a reasonable facsimile of coffee. We found the mattresses too soft for us.
