The location and the room assigned to the river from Which we could see the Pagoda. The old rugs from the floor.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. They modified the dinner for my wife who is vegetarian, with fish sauce which they made sure to point out to me. Convenient location with clean and large rooms, with lots of storage.

My husband accidentally left with our room key as we departed for Hiroshima. Fortunately, Tazaru helped us to return it with no extra cost. So generous. Much appreciated. We are forever grateful. Excellent evening meal with impeccable service.

The ryokan is simply awesome! Cozy and beautiful, despite being simple, this is not a trivial stay! They provide you with cold and hot water daily for matcha, fresh towels, plus there is a bath tub and the room is just so perfect sized!!!! Incredible experience, truly takes you to ancient Japan! It was not so clear for me about the restaurant in the hotel. I did not quite understand what type of meal they provided and if I could have drinks there or not. If these informations could be added on the written notes available in the room, it should be perfect for next visitors.

The old school Japanese style The futons were a bit uncomfortable

The location is so beautiful. Our room had a small sitting area that looked over the small river. The big river and so many cool streets and places to eat are so close. We really appreciated the tea service every day. The room is clean and so comfortable. I didn't know there was an attached little seating area, it was so lovely. I wanted to be able to open the windows but it felt like I might break them.

How it was traditional, next to the river and quiet. I loved how charming it is and kind the staff was to us and our children. I wish the hair dryer worked but seems like they kept the original.

Very authentic and our host was very welcoming. Great location and view. Would stay there again without a doubt. The futons provided us with the best sleep yet on our trip.

The area is overrun with tourists. The surrounding shops are expensive and everything is always booked up or has a really long line.

    Nothing special. Older but clean

Now something to consider. Building was a bit outdated. Shower/bath was separate from the toilet, which was in the separate part of our hotel room, which was a bit odd. No laundry in the building, so you gotta take your clothes to a coin laundry shop. There was a main light switch at the entrance, which controlled all lights in the hotel room.

    nothing, everything was perfect

Beautiful traditional bedding, very spacious room, and best of all excellent location. Bonus points for the staff who were always so friendly and so eager to help. Really felt so charmed. Nothing.

We stayed exclusively for the atmosphere, tatami mats and the nice location in downtown Kyoto. We enjoyed the shower and small bath inside our room. It was quite spacious. We loved sleeping on tatami mats, although it might be a bit hard for first time users. Also really friendly staff and close to all the major venues in Kyoto. The room itself was a bit tired and old. Some of the walls had stains, toilet was a bit older type as well. Since the walls are most likely quite thin during the night we could hear washing machine working for couple of hours, it was slightly disturbing my sleep.

We loved how spacious it was and all the design of the space was very beautiful. Nothing

Location. Balcony looking over the river. Room was spacious and comfortable. Walls were very thin, so one night we were kept up by noisy neighbours until about 1-2am.

The room and views were incredible I hope the next time I visit, the onsens are open!

It was great location, traditional Japanese Ryokan. The facilities were somewhat rundown and needed a touch-up but everything was neat and clean and staff was friendly. The staff could have been a bit more thoughtful and informative of the dining facilities. They did tell us about the breakfast (which was exceptional) but not about the fact that the place had a restaurant for dinner too. The dinner options were overall quite obscure and most places had minimal information in English and staff were not friendly.
