They offered traditional and modern amenities! Great service

Awesome bathroom tub and very comfortable bed. Breakfast is brought in from local shops and is Japanese style only. A delicious French bakery serving hot Western breakfasts is only a 7 min walk away if you ask the front desk. The staff are superb!! Nothing.

Nothing Very disappointing stay. This hotel is advertised as 5-star, but it felt more like a 2-star property. Upon checking in, I found mould around the bath and several broken cupboards, with the overall condition and maintenance well below expectations. I paid AUD $3,900 for my stay but was so disappointed that I checked out just one hour after arriving. The cleanliness and quality were nowhere near 5-star standard. I would not recommend this hotel and would not stay here again.

This is not a hotel. This is an art. Absolutely perfect, till the last detail. Bit far from the center, but it's close to a bus station.

Beautiful room, clean, amenities. Some of the staff were unhelpful for a couple questions we had. We asked for some help calling a restaurant to make a reservation; the person at the desk told me to call myself, which I couldn’t do because I don’t have service in Japan. When we checked out, the person at the desk told us to bring our luggage down from the room ourselves (we were on the 3rd floor with no elevator) which was confusing because they brought our bags up for us when we checked in. We asked for a recommendation for a dry cleaning service, as we had some laundry items we needed dry cleaned. They said they didn’t know what we were asking for and pointed us to the laundry service they partner with and told us to contact them directly. We did, and got no response from the laundry service about our inquiries for dry cleaning vs. laundry. We left our laundry with the front desk to be picked up, and asked again if they could clarify if there was dry cleaning service. They said they would ask when the laundry was picked up. When we returned that evening we were informed there was not dry cleaning available with that company, and we ended up paying their minimum 3,000yen for just a few small items of clothing as our dry cleaning was not picked up. It was too late to find an alternative as we were leaving the next day.

Carpet too dingy. Air conditioner and humidifier too loud. Furnishings too worn.

The hotel staff were just lovely — helpful, friendly, and attentive. We felt very cared for during our stay. The entry spaces felt very tranquil and inviting. The room was clean and comfortable for the four of us, and the property was close to bus stops that got us to where we wanted to go. It felt like a pretty quiet residential area, but there were restaurants and coffee shops nearby (without the tourist mark up). Only slight downside for us was the location. We often returned to the hotel to freshen up midafternoon, and it would have been a bit easier to have been in walking distance to the area we frequented most (though there are downsides to being in the touristy areas as well).

Beautiful spacious room, great location, very hospitable and accommodating staff No negative experiences

It felt like a small personalized hotel. The same kind Japanese gentleman was there to greet us everyday with a smile. It felt like coming home. I also have allergies and it felt cleaner than many hotels I stayed at in Japan. The location was a little out of the way but close enough. We enjoyed being out of the touristy area and being more immersed in the daily Japanese life. The location was a little out of they way and there was not Ironing board but it is a boutique hotel, maybe that is to be expected in this kind of hotel.

Stay away from this property at all costs! Absolute worst experience i've ever had at a property! We booked this expecting to get a 5 star treatment given the top reviews on tripadvisor and to have the true Japanese experience in Kyoto. However, when we arrived we were shocked to say the least. We took a taxi with our 2 children and luggage from train station to the hotel which is about 15 min drive and when we arrived the entrance to the "hotel" was so tiny and unwelcoming. The staff were clueless and not helpful and then they showed us to a room that is on the Ground Floor right next to the reception which is right next to the main door/street. It felt like we would be staying on the street basically. We asked to be given another room and to be shown a better place in the hotel and the answer was no sorry our hotel is fully booked. If you are fully booked and you are trying to maximise your profits, don't do it on the cost of your customers who have travelled half across the world to be shown a room next to the streets. It was also a small room (given that we booked for 4 people) and it was very claustrophobic. At the end, we demanded a refund and made another booking at another hotel. We booked the Nikko Princess Hotel which we were so glad with and it was at a much much better location where we walked everywhere. At the Junei location we would have needed taxis to go everywhere. In summary stay away from this property: uninviting, not luxurious, no lobby, no property space, very bad location and staff dont know how ot be welcoming or supportive.

This property was just lovely and perfect. It represented the charm of the area, was in a quiet space, and there was a wonderful personal touch from the lovely staff. They helped us with directions to our next location too! nothing

The ambiance and the staff was amazing. The bathroom was probably the fanciest I’ve ever seen. Honestly the only area that could be improved was the WiFi. It was really in and out and eventually I gave up trying to connect.

Everything. The fantastic, well trained and warm staff, the awesome comfortable large family room with futons for the kids. The hydrogenated bath. The location and neighbourhood Nothing. An amazing stay
-
The staff make this hotel. Location is fine, rooms are nice, traditional with modern style and touches but the staff make the place. Ignore the star rating, that's down to minimal additional facilities, if you don't want/need a pool etc, you can't go wrong here. Nothing

Love the staff Love the tub and herbs Love the skin products Love the room and Japanese floor Love the garden

Incredible room, service, and shower. I will never forget the amazing spa-like shower room + the amazing toilet.

We had a great experience at The Junei. The staff is simply amazing and hotel is tucked in a quiet area with a great coffee shop located around the corner and a pastry shop next door. After the busy crowded site seeing days in Kyoto it was nice to come back to what feels like a very local neighborhood. We walked to dinner a few nights and loved the local crowds (kids loved the chain restaurant Gyoza No Osho). We had a family style room for our family of four and it was perfect! The onsen bath was amazing! If you want a hotel that isn’t loaded with tourists this is a great place to stay. Junei West is a great small hotel with amazing staff
