The location is good. It is about a 10 minute walk to the main busy area, but far enough away that it stays quiet. Unfortunately, the rest of our stay was disappointing. The staff were rude when we checked out. They took our room keys, asked for our room number, then simply told us to leave. Nobody asked how our stay was or thanked us for visiting. When we were packing to leave, we found ants in our room. The cold water tap also had very low water pressure, which made it difficult to wash your face. The decking around the pool was falling apart and repairs started early in the morning. There were unsupported sections that felt unsafe to walk on. Breakfast was exactly the same every day with no variety, which became boring after a few days. The food was left out in large batches for a long time, so it became dry and chewy. It was disappointing, especially as the hotel describes it as award winning. It also did not look like the photos, which showed much nicer presentation with fresh fruit cut into shapes and other details. We also booked massages, which we regretted. The spa was just a noisy room in the basement with people constantly walking past. There was no communication between reception and the spa, so we had to explain our booking several times to different people. Paying was just as confusing. We were first told it would be charged to our room, then told to pay the massage therapists directly, then sent back to reception to pay instead. Even the prices were incorrect. The whole experience was badly organised. One of the massage therapists spent the entire session talking about British politics and sharing racist opinions, which made it impossible to relax. The massage itself was also poor. Parking was confusing and should have been explained before we arrived. Overall, the location was the best part of our stay, but the service, maintenance, breakfast and spa experience meant we would not stay here again.

Best breakfast I’ve had in Portugal and that’s over 6 plus hotels. Location was good because only a 5 minute walk to old town and kept you away from all the noise. We only used the pool area once and it was beautiful. The rooms were very quiet and didn’t hear other guests at all. Having onsite parking was beneficial too. When you visit old town, check out Restaurante - Pizzeria O Cavaleiro. Middle of old town, owner (Marco) was awesome and excellent food and vibe ! The hotel is large and spread out so multiple sets of steps to get to your room. We checked in and there were 6 staff at the front desk and only 1 porter.

Nice pool, great breakfast buffet! Staff by the pool bar was very rude. Having to pay for water and ice was ridiculous!! First room had a barking dog the barked outside from 2:30-5:30am!! We finally got out of bed then, but it continued to bark off and on. Fortunately we complained and got moved. NH recently took over ownership but everywhere there was a need to upgrade—carpets were worn out, building needed painting. Also a crazy layout with lots of stairs making getting around with luggage difficult! See above

Needs more renovation in common areas , around the pool etc.

The location was amazing. The staff was very nice and helpful and breakfast was amazing. Outdated property that needs some maintenance. Pool floor boards need replacing, moldy grout, whole facility needs some new paint and patching of walls/replacing windows.

Breakfast was terrific with good choices. No ice machines anywhere, this is not good.............

The view and bed Old facilities and poor breakfast
-
Lovely place with an amazing buffet breakfast

Very friendly staff, good breakfast, nice to eat on the terrace, comfy bed, great sheets. Did not like all the stairs to get everywhere. There were small elevators, but you had to use different ones to get to different floors. Did not like all the stairs everywhere. Having to find the elevators for different floors was a pain.

The poll and bar are excellent.

Excellent location and wonderful staff! The breakfast buffet was absolutely incredible (easily the best I've had). It’s also incredibly convenient if you love the water—all the major boat and kayak tours are within a 1 km radius.

Location was great. Loved our room, junior suite, very spacious. The hotel was beautiful, everyone was very kind. The hotel is large but they have staff to give you a tour and take you to your room. Great breakfast buffet. Great pool facilities.

Its location. We felt deceived by the online photos. The hotel appeared clean and well maintained. However, in truth the grounds and buildings are worn and delapitated. The pool is missing tiles, the wooden walkways are missing planks and white exterior is mossy and black. We had issues with the toilet running all night, lights flickering and the AC breaking down. All were fixed in the 4 days we were there but took away from the experience. Plus, the hotel is no where near the beach. I have included current photos.

Hard to navigate the property and need some updated The room was located very far from the reception, we took 3 elevators and steps

Good property

Great breakfast buffet, walking distance to center of town and beach, although the hotel also provides a free beach shuttle. The room had a lovely balcony with an elegant view of rooftops. Mabagement stingy with small items such as morning coffee in the room

Pátio Velho restaurante is very good. Big buffet-style breakfast. The hotel seems tired and needs some repairs.

Great location, nice staff, comfortable room (European sized bathroom/shower), and great breakfast Only issue is that there are quite a few stairs with the facility between building - not really personally an issue for me, but was a surprise!

I loved the amenities and the breakfast bar that was included in our stay. The staff was very nice and was able to honor my requests of putting champagne and balloons in my room for my wife's birthday. NA

Amazing comfortable bed, yummy breakfast and friendly staff. Bedroom was large size and bathroom was nice too. Parking was free and plenty of spots. This hotel is really well built and I would like to visit again. Special mention to Luis and rest of front desk staff who gave us inputs and helped plan our travel in terms of which spots to cover in finite amount of time. Some signs of aging in the common areas, although the bedroom and bathroom are nicely renovated.
