The proximity to Venice Beach and Marina del Rey is the biggest perk. We like the size of the room and the air conditioner. It's more than enough space for two adults. There is always parking and spots designated for guests with disabled parking permits. The elevator makes lugging bags around easier. This was our second time staying at the Jolly Roger and it was a bumpy start. We were there Sunday through Wednesday. When we got to the room we discovered that the remote control for the TV wasn't working, there was only one set of towels in the bathroom, the light above the table was out and the toilet paper roll was at the halfway point without a backup roll on the ready. We had to call the main desk several times throughout the night just to set things straight. Since there is only one tiny trashcan near the sink and no microwave accompanying the mini-fridge we were forced to buy food - which resulted in overflowing trash due to takeout containers, etc. In the 4 days that we were there the trash was not collected once and the room was never cleaned. We ended up having to place the excess trash in the hallway. It's important for there to be two trashcans for female guests in a hotel room - one in the bathroom to deal with female issues and one in the room for everything else (food, etc.) As entertaining as local channels are in 2026 access to streaming services like Netflix and YouTube should be offered.

The young ladies at reception were extremely helpful and friendly. That's the reason we returned 3 weeks after the first visit. The male 'boss' (Ali?) working in the morning. Very rude, I was waiting to ask a question, he took a call, walked off and basically forgot about me at reception. Then when I returned 15 mins later, we asked for a late checkout. Booking.com showed many rooms available. He said we had to pay a full day. Wasn't interested in meeting halfway or negotiating. Stupid as he missed out on another $100+ for the room that wasn't being used. Arrogance personified.

Lovely staff, nice rooms, and great location if you love walking to join the beach.

We needed to find a reasonable place in the Marina Del Rey area to be close to the Woodlawn Cemetery for a memorial service, which was a challenge. Most charged for parking and were over $300 a night (and more.). The Jolly Roger was one of the few places that did not charge for parking and had reasonable rates, but don't expect a fancy hotel experience(it's more like a motel.) The rooms are clean, comfortable, a good size, good air conditioning, with an iron and ironing board, and nice fluffy towels (looks just like the picture.). However, there are no bathrooms to use if you arrive before check in, and they charge $50 more for early check in, but don't charge if only one hour before check in (but they don't tell you that unless you ask.). The power went out briefly a couple of times, and the refrigerator didn't really keep our food cold. The traffic and people were very noisy during the night. We did find a good restaurant nearby to eat lunch.

Very little. Check in very difficult. Requested receipt but refused. Found several BED BUGS on bed. Shampoo and body wash hard to use. Someone in another room yelling for hours. Parking difficult and sparse. Lighting very poor or not working....no bed lamp so had to leave bath light on all night to find my way. Seems like they skimp on many small things that inconvenience the renter and make for an overall unpleasant stay. Not a pleasant stay. Would not stay again.
