Short stay, I wish we could spend more time in Sassi

I booked this place last minute while traveling to Matera. This place was magical and the owners were very sweet. The room was ready early so I was able to get into room when I arrived. I would highly recommend this adorable place. The owners were responsive and made my stay so pleasant. Thank you for your kindness during my stay. ❤️ Nothing, it’s so perfect!

Everything! Great location, wonderful clean, spacious room! The hosts were fantastic, great communication. Advised us on parking and use of shuttle bus. Did I mention the roof top terrace and breakfast? We would stay here again! Highly recommend for your stay in Matera! Nothing we didn’t like.

Center of the historic district! Cave like walls of ancient building.

Location is great very helpful owner pleasure to stay ?

The staircase inside the unit was incredibly unstable and we were nervous to walk down at night.

Host was very helpful. Great location. Comfortable and clean. Lots of restaurants in walking distance. Lovely rooftop terrace for a glass of wine. Limit your luggage. Several stairs

The room doors are located on the side street and our room had a window overlooking the breakfast area. With the window closed there was zero noise. Room was cute and clean. Mattress a bit on the soft side for our liking. Bathroom was comfy. Well located and easy walk to many areas.

Really appreciated the staff arranging to take our bags to the next hotel -- up many, many steps!!

This property was amazing! Host was super friendly and provided us all necessary information. Location absolutely great. Definitely we will come back here! :)

Location and breakfast It is not comfortable to sleep. The pillow Wa so hard like a cement bag. The entire wooden structure on the second floor creaked loudly with every step.

Amazing! Beautiful! Only words of praise

A special thank you to Pasquale, who was extremely helpful throughout my stay. He provided detailed recommendations for restaurants, sightseeing routes, and scenic viewpoints. What impressed me most was how responsive he was — even in the evening, he replied promptly and made sure I had all the information I needed. His support truly enhanced my experience in Matera. The breakfast provided was quite good overall. The only small drawback was that some of the bread seemed to have been left out for a while and was no longer as crisp as it could have been. Overall, a very pleasant stay with outstanding hospitality.

First, let me say that the owner was really great. There was a mix up with our booking (my fault). I have some mobility issues and I was given a room with stairs to the bathroom, which would have been an issue. As soon as we contacted Pasquale he immediately came to our room to understand the issue and then moved us to another room. The rooms are really nice and well done keeping the historic charm of the barrel ceilings and other historic touches. Everything was spotless and clean. Breakfast was very nice -- good coffee assorted danish, yogurts, eggs, croissant, etc. They are, of course, located in one of the historic Sassi, so it was a beautiful area. Nothing. They did a great job and we enjoyed it so much we added an extra night.

Beautiful and thoughtfully decorated room, nice breakfast, picked up by owner and great directions were given via video. Amazing view of Matera town from communal rooftop. Directions to apartment and parking are essential for smooth stress free arrival.

Carnen was lovely. She was helpful in restaurant recommendations and reservations.

Matera is amazing and we were so happy to spend a night at San Giovanni Vecchio. The room was very comfortable with a beautiful ceiling. It is so special to sleep in such a historic place. The restaurant across the street Oi Mare belongs to the same owners and I had my favorite salad ever there: burrata with figs, tomatoes, pistachios, etc. Heavenly! Highly recommend. Also breakfast at the hotel itself was quite good. Fruit, yoghurt, cornetto but also a few hartier items like focaccia with tomatoes, etc. It was nice they allowed is to store our luggage at the restaurant after checkout. It was also nice we could check in a bit early. The staff at reception and breakfast were very friendly. It didn’t bother me but there were a few steps down to the bathroom. That could be a bit tricky at night maybe.

Maybe breakfast could be richer, though the croissant was awesome.

Very well located, the host is very good We stayed is a duplex room with TV and bathroom downstairs, not so good if you wake up at night
