This hotel is in an ideal location - in a quiet street but only a short walk to the busier parts of Mexico City and close to restaurants. The staff were not friendly - in fact, even appeared a little hostile - although one person on the reception desk was the exception and I thank him. I can only think it was because we didn't speak Spanish - although I tried as much as I could but hadn't been learning for very long. Also, even though we stayed in the hotel for almost a week, when we returned for a last night in Mexico City after 10 days in the Yucatan, it was as though we'd never been there before. We didn't expect a grand welcome but an acknowledgment that we were returning guests would have been nice. Also the breakfast staff were decidedly unfriendly and it was difficult to work out what we could have for breakfast as there was no buffet or menu and we were told we could have "eggs". After staying a few days we realised there were more choices but these were not communicated. Unfortunately the hotel is really lovely - old world charm but clean and comfortable - and the stay should have been perfect however the staff made us feel unwelcome and even a little uncomfortable.

Hotel Maria Cristina has a lovely Colonial style lobby and central courtyard. The optional breakfast included coffee or tea, toast, fresh fruit or fruit juice and eggs cooked different styles. Staff, especially at the cafe, were helpful and friendly. Hotel Maria Cristina is just a few blocks from La Reforma where you can catch buses to the top sites. The bar next door is part of the property and it’s quite charming with an outdoor patio. Our room lacked AC which made it warmer than we liked and less comfortable sleeping in the evenings. Also, our room was located near the front of the hotel and it was noisy some nights.

almost perfect! The nice and very attentive staff, particularly the waiters, Tomás and the other senior waiter whose name I unfortunately forgot. The location is perfect for visitors who want to stay in the centre. A pleasant walk to Chapultepéc park only takes half an hour. The showers in our rooms (we stayed two times, in two different rooms( didn't work that well (perhaps it's just a matter of cleaning the shower heads properly?)
