Cozy and inspiring.

Location and price It felt very much like a hostel, not a hotel. The rooms were clean and basic. The staff were okay but not overly friendly. The cat was more friendly.

This hotel is not for everyone as it's a very old building with very quirky rooms, however the guy who greeted us was super friendly, the room had an on suite toilet with shower, air con and the beds were comfortable. We were there for a night as we were passing through New York. Very noisy at night it feels like you are outside even with the window closed.

Easy check in - just gave my name a received a key. Appreciated the early check in too. The entire place is wonderfully decorated. Coffee in the morning common room was also good. Excellent location. The shared shower could have been a little more clean, but what can you expect? Bring shower shoes (ie flip flops).

Property is little old but John has made sure to make it funky. It’s a really good vibe with lots of good places to hangout nearby. Can be more clean

Maybe my favorite NYC hotel. It's definitely not the Ritz, but it is the coolest. Not for everyone. But I like it a lot.

Affordable, friendly staff. The location is convenient and out of the way but easy to get around. Bathrooms

This hotel is not for everyone! The quirky art everywhere is eclectic, eccentric and sometimes downright bizarre, and the re-purposed original features (eg old toilet cisterns, ancient sinks, sloping floorboards in the corridors) could be off putting for someone expecting “modern comforts”. But we absolutely loved it! Why spend ages ripping out old wiring, light switches, plumbing etc when you can simply incorporate them into the overall madness of the Carlton Arms Hotel! It’s quirky, it’s colourful, it’s mad (stuffed animal head on the wall anyone?) and it’s bang smack in the middle of Manhattan and so affordable you simply have to stay here at least once. Ignore reviews from fuss-pots who like everything to be clinical and boring - embrace the crazy and book yourself a stay you’ll never forget!

Very unique hotel, super friendly and helpful staff, and best of all a real live cat! Shared bathrooms take a little planning for showers, and sometimes requires going to a diffrent floor if its occupied.
