Hotel St. James

We decided to stay at Hotel St. James out of convenience more than anything. Its location near Times Square and all the Broadway theaters was great. The Public House restaurant next door was also a nice bonus. As far as the hotel goes, it’s NOT a 3 star hotel that Expedia currently has it listed as. It’s a 2 Star hotel with dated and small rooms. There are no amenities to speak of. There’s a bar, but it’s closed because they lost their liquor license. Unfortunately, there are no mini fridges in the rooms as well. Although the rooms are small, they are quaint and clean, but that’s about all. The window AC unit did keep the room cool. However, the beds are inconsistent, so it’s kind of the luck of the draw as far as what kind you get. Our first room had a bed about as comfortable as a piece of plywood. Fortunately, the staff was very helpful and accommodating. They let us move to a different room with a bed that was much softer. The housekeeper on our floor was also very nice and helpful. They do a great job of keeping the hotel rooms nice and clean. Overall, this is a hotel that has a great location at an affordable price. If you’re looking for those things, and don’t need anything fancy, this is a good place to stay. The staff will also let you store your luggage before check-in if you arrive early, or they will store it if you’re staying in the city later than the checkout time.

The Hotel St. James was amazing! It was central to everything NYC. Walk 10ft outside past midnight and can get food and drink, and convienently next to a 24 hour store and rooftop bar. Hotel staff was great so was the housekeeping and AC.

Best feature of this hotel is its location, especially if you’re in NYC to see Broadway shows. I liked that it was trying to be a European boutique hotel, but it was run down and in need of updates, like plumbing and air conditioning. It was also VERY loud, with the a/c blowing, the toilet running, and no sound cushion to muffle outside noise. The staff were polite, and the room was cleaned every day, but I will stay somewhere else next time I’m in the city.

Loved our stay and close to pretty much everything. It’s clean and the staff is nice, nothing fancy just clean.

On a hot summer’s day, the window AC unit did a heroic job keeping us cool.

The location was very good close to Times Square the easy to get around to major attractions. The rooms are very small especially the bathrooms. I was with my 13 year old grandson it turned out ok.

Every staff were kind and one staff shows us the subway station by walking with us. He walked to close to the station where we can see on the street. Thank you!

The staff was very nice and the hotel was very clean, the room was spacious for New York!

I am a native New Yorker who now lives in Miami and I had to spend just one night in a hotel. I loved this place. The staff was helpful, kind, and accommodating with my requests to store bags and work a full day from the lobby. There's a unique nostalgia in the decor and style of the hotel, and it's as authentically New York as it gets. Highly recommend.

Great location with easy access to several subway stations, making it convenient to get around. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help. I had no issues whatsoever during my stay and would happily stay here again.

There was no ice machine. But overall our stay was great. Hotel clean and comfy. Staff very nice. And the location is perfect. Had a wonderful time on our trip to NYC
