Suminoe Ryokan

We added the meals and the breakfast and dinner were excellent! This was one of our favorite stays our whole Japan trip. We had a beautiful ocean view from our room, the bath was wonderful, and the meals were incredible. Super friendly and helpful staff who guided us on how to rent bikes to bike between islands too!

FYI smoking is allowed in some areas of the building, which may bother some people.

It’s a charming old building and the staff are pleasant It is very run down - stained carpets, walls, and ceilings. Very much in need of some basic upkeep. Compared to other ryokans we have stayed in it was in poor shape and the meal was not especially good. Very basic bath (no shower or bath in the room we stayed in) without especially nice shampoo/soap and other amenities. Slow WiFi. Quite overpriced for the quality you get. I don’t know why this is considered a 3 star hotel.

This was our 3rd time staying at the Suminoe Ryokan. We enjoy the whole experience; the thoughtful and caring staff + management, the beautiful house+bath+garden and surroundings, along with the delicious meals, without forgetting Setoda and its iconic temples, Ferrara marble and sea views. Many thanks to all the staff!

Everything was perfectly amazing from the beautiful garden, our room with a view of the sea to the multi-course delicious dinner. Highly recommend!!

Old traditional Inn with a beautiful garden in the courtyard and views of the waterfront. Lots of common areas space. Our room had a garden view, was spacious, futons and pillows very comfortable. There is a good size fridge, a toilet, and a convenient sink for wash up and set all toiletries. Everything works well, wifi etc…onsen was very nice as well. The whole place is very clean and quiet, Breakfast and dinner are served in a room and you can enjoy the view of the garden if you leave the doors open, the food was very good, traditional Japanese. Fantastic location, basically across the street from the ferry we took for Onomichi. And by the bike path. The Main Street starts around the corner. All the staff is wonderful. The hostesses are incredibly kind, fun and caring, they will assist you with anything. They picked us up at the Setoda bus station, we were grateful. You can rent a bike nearby. Also I forgot my iPad on the JR train, they took the matter in their hands and I got it the next day!! We spent 3 nights and it was great. We will definitely come back if in the area again. Nothing

Suminoe Ryokan is located in a great spot by the sea around halfway through the Shimanami Kaido. The included meals were delicious. I would recommend staying here if you're looking for a legit ryokan experience to break up your bike ride.

Quiet and peaceful

It was perfect - beautiful, clean and with a gorgeous sea view. The food was delicious, the onsen very relaxing and the staff were very hospitable (and helpful arranging for my bags to be forwarded to my next accommodation). Thank you! Nothing

No reservation available in hotel's restaurant. In one of our two rooms, the sleeping mats were VERY firm.

+ Genuine atmosphere and service + Delicious, healthy, outstanding food + Serene and beautiful garden on the back side of the property + Serene and beautiful sea view on the front of the property + The staff truly cares about your well being + Both management and staff go out of their way to help you Nothing. Everything feels right at Suminoe Ryokan. We hope to return, it’d be our third time.

The meals provided were wonderful! Beautifully presented, fresh and locally inspired. Some of the best seafood we had during our trip! The small details were much appreciated by the host. The atmosphere was serene. We loved the garden and the sound of trickling water from the onsens in the background.

Relaxing

The service and food were excellent. The room was lovely, bed very comfortable except the pillows which were hard. Onsen and garden were lovely. We visited the temple, art gallery and museum and some restaurants in town. The pillows!
