Orbit In - 21 and Over - A Town & Desert Boutique Hotel

The Orbit In exceeded our expectations – and they were already very high when we arrived. We received an exceptionally warm welcome (I believe it was Brian who greeted us, and Ann was also awesome) and were given a personal tour of the property. From that very first moment, we knew we had chosen somewhere special. We stayed in the Rat Pack room, with Sammy Davis Jr., Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin watching over us from above the bed – and what can we say? The room was simply unique and wonderful. Everything has been designed and furnished with an extraordinary sense of style and authenticity, capturing the spirit of the 1950s without ever feeling kitschy or contrived. The bed was extremely comfortable, the air conditioning worked perfectly, and the sofa was a wonderful place to relax. We absolutely loved the fabulous 1950s-style kitchen, complete with its iconic vintage refrigerator. And then there was the pink bathroom – truly extraordinary and an absolute delight. The pool area is beautiful, immaculate and wonderfully peaceful. We also wholeheartedly appreciate the Orbit Inn’s policy of welcoming solo travelers and couples rather than larger groups. It helps preserve the intimate, tranquil atmosphere that makes this place so special. One evening, we even had the entire property to ourselves, which was simply sensational. The following day, we met a lovely couple from Los Angeles and had a wonderful conversation over an Orbitini by the pool – exactly the kind of relaxed, sociable encounter that seems perfectly suited to this place. For us, the Orbit In is genuinely one of the most beautiful and memorable hotels we have stayed at in the United States – and we have visited quite a few. A truly special place with character, authenticity and soul. We will definitely be back. There was very little we didn’t like – this is a truly wonderful hotel. If we had to suggest a few small improvements, they would be these: The kitchen equipment was rather minimal. With just two forks, two knives, two spoons and very few plates, it felt a little too sparsely equipped, even for two people. A few more pieces of crockery and cutlery would make the kitchen considerably more practical. A kettle would also have been a welcome addition. There are some beautiful retro-style models available – from SMEG, for example – that would fit perfectly with the Orbit Inn’s wonderful 1950s aesthetic. We also thought the complimentary bicycles were a fantastic amenity. However, they currently have to be returned by 6 p.m. In Palm Springs during the summer, that is precisely when cycling starts to become enjoyable, as the daytime heat makes riding before then rather challenging. Perhaps the return time could be reconsidered, at least during the hotter months. These are very minor suggestions, though. Overall, we absolutely loved our stay and will definitely return.

Very quiet. Room was clean but a little small but older hotels are not large. The heat the 1st week of June nothing anyone can do about that. Also the A/C in our room was a little loud. Also some maintenance needs to be done around the place. Gate to our patio should be repaired along with the patio furniture. Rusty and old and not safe to sit in.

We enjoyed our brief return to the Orbit In after twelve years. The only complaint I would have, if you could even call it that, was the fact they tried to sweat me for $45 for early checkin, despite the fact that the grounds were almost completely deserted when we arrived. Had they accommodated us on that and another small issue we would have never stayed anywhere else in Palm Springs. But policies seemed to override common sense, and as it stands the search for our "Perfect Place" continues.

Friendly personal. The swimming pool was not clean with cockroach floating in the water and lot of dirts.

Everything! From the complimentary ‘Orbitini’ cocktail served by the pool at check in to the vinyls and turntable in the room, the robes, the chill vibe, the vintage bathroom , the pool, decor, - absolutely perfect. nothing!

Great boutique hotel! We stayed two nights and it was great. Very quiet, you can read and relax.

We loved everything about this perfect gem in Palm Springs. We stayed in the rat pack room. It was bigger than some apartments I’ve lived in. Usually when something is vintage and absolutely gorgeous it tends to be uncomfortable to actually stay in, but not here! The bed was so comfortable I didn’t want to leave. The room was clean and well taken care of. The pool and jacuzzi were both amazing! They provided records to play in your room as well as snacks and coffee 24/7! Nothing.
