Altstadthotel Kasererbräu
About Altstadthotel Kasererbräu
Dating back to 1342, the carefully renovated Altstadthotel Kasererbräu has been family-run for several generations and is located in the heart of Salzburg, directly in the city's historical pedestrian zone, at the foot of the Hohensalzburg Fortress. The rooms, some of which feature antique furniture, while others are newly renovated with a modern design, are individually furnished and offer guests the highest level of comfort possible. Some categories offer a free-standing bathtub. Every morning, Altstadthotel Kasererbräu provides guests with a buffet breakfast and an Italian restaurant is located in the same building. The hotel is only a few minutes walking distance from all famous historical sights in Salzburg, such as the Salzburger Dom cathedral, the Residence Square with its fountain, Mozart's birthplace or St. Peter's Monastery. A variety of traditional Austrian restaurants in the old town are as well located in the immediate surrounding. Garages and parking lots are available near the hotel. Busses number 3, 5, 6, 8 and 25 all stop only a short walk away from the hotel, conveniently transporting guests around Salzburg.

We loved the hotel. An old building with a lot of character, superb location and very friendly stuff. Clean spacious room ours coming with a superb view. Parking available and pet friendly, which for us those two aspects were very important as well. We visited this hotel during a heatwave in August, and the lack of air conditioning in the room made it almost impossible to sleep at night, with temperatures reaching nearly 30°C. The hotel did provide us with a fan, but unfortunately, it made very little difference.

Everything about the hotel is simple amazing

The location is very convenient for exploring the old town! The breakfast was enjoyable and very varied - sometimes they ran out of items that were not replenished, but what they did have was all tasty. It was easy returning to the hotel even a bit later in the evening. Cute little library, and friendly staff. There was a fan in the room that helped cool the air on the warmer days. The ironing iron and ironing board were a bit of a joke - so tiny, that they could have passed as children's toys. The iron was broken (plug missing from water compartment), and for this reason as well as the incredibly small amount of water the device could handle the iron needed to be refilled after every single item of clothing. The sauna was not available for reservation and use during our stay, and there was no prior mention of this on their website nor their Booking site.

Excellent location. Great restaurant. Nothing. All good.

The size of the room was adequate, although it would have been more comfortable had it been bigger. But maybe it’s just us, as we live in the US and are used to larger spaces. Room was very clean, great breakfast, wonderful staff!! The lack of AC was a problem, since it was very hot in July. There was a portable AC unit in the room any it helped but it was very noisy and made it hard to stay asleep. That said, it isn’t anyone’s fault b/c the hotel is located in the Altstadt and they cannot install AC without spoiling the building’s beautiful facade.

Location Small not comfortable room especially for more than 2 people

Excellent location on the edge of the old town. Easy walking distance to all the main attractions and shopping streets. No air conditioning, and despite having a fan in the room , it was still too hot. No option on alternative to the feather pillows. The bedroom floor was quite grubby. The breakfast room was a bit shabby and looks in need of an upgrade. We had a lot of heavy luggage and baby travel cot and there was nobody in reception who offered to help us on arrival or departure. There are steps down into the hotel from the street , so not ideal if you have a lot of luggage / baby/ mobility issues. This hotel has 4 stars , however I would only describe it as 3 star.

Location was great, staff were very helpful and nice, room was spacious. No fridge in room to keep cold drinks and no AC. Neither would normally be a problem but we’re visiting in late June and it was very hot and the rooms were very uncomfortable due to the heat. A fan was provided but wasn’t a lot of help against the extreme heat.

The location is exceptional. It is a well looked after building with so much history right in the centre of Salzburg.

Everything Nothing
-
location, historical, too hot, no a/c - no mention of not having an A/C, although there was a heat wave. There is no vent for A/C - we could not do sight seeing, tired and exhausted - could not sleep all night even with the air cooler.

Location in the Altstadt is the only plus… Very dirty. Neglected. Bad smells. Stained everything - carpets, furniture etc. Mouldy bathroom - the odour and damp suffused the entire room. Bedding and towels thin and not clean. Dirt in bed. Noisy with paper thin walls. Very poor breakfast offering in dirty, threadbare dining room. Dead flies on tray of glasses near juice. Staff have given up and clearly don’t care. No evidence of management or pride. Undeserving of 2 stars.

The location was great. The single rooms are not beds. They are small mattresses on a wood platform. Very hard
