We went here for the experience because we are fans of The Sound of Music. The place is very magical and also full of history. You can just walk around the rooms and feel transported back to the past. The view of the lake and the Alps were breathtaking. The surroundings around the hotel were very well-maintained. I really liked the fact that only guests were allowed inside so you could fully relax and just enjoy the scenery. Check-in went alright and we were able to go in early. Breakfast was quite sufficient and plenty of choices. We had a quiet room with a view of the courtyard. It was also a plus that we could park free at the property. If you go here by car, that's fine but it's quite a ride to the city center. There aren't a lot of restaurants nearby and it's a shame that the hotel doesn't have one for dinner service, only a bar that's to grab a quick bite to eat. We were well-informed about the lack of airconditioning and they did have cooling fans in the room but they were quite noisy. The bed was quite fine for me but my partner found them too soft. The shower was kinda cramped (I am 160 cm, average weight) so you had to watch where you position yourself because I accidentally turned the shower knob to hot and that was very annoying.

Our stay was a truly artistic experience. The details in the room, the park, and the chateau itself were thoughtfully conceived. Breakfast, served in the magnificent chateau hall, was an exceptional experience, thanks in no small part to the service manager.

If you love The Sound of Music, I believe this is a place you absolutely must visit. Sitting in the lakeside garden feels like pure healing that reaches deep into your soul. The peaceful scenery, combined with the charm of the lake, made this one of the most memorable places I have ever been. It’s a place I would love to return to someday and one that will always remain a treasured memory of a lifetime.

This is a classic old palace with very spacious rooms, and the overall atmosphere is really comfortable. Even though it was quite hot outside, they have air con newly assembled, the room stayed at a pleasant temperature. Having breakfast in the balcony was one of the highlights. The garden is beautiful, the food was even better. They have fresh juice, good variety of food and best service. The location is a bit away from the city, but it’s good for driving here, and there is bus to the city easily. Be aware of the bus schedule, sometimes some of them may change.

The main palace, the outdoor views by the lake. Most of staff were helpful and polite yet a bit rigid. The rooms in the Annex building were very basic - no room service, only one terrace with limited snack and drinks menu. Moreover the terrace gets booked for receptions and gathering which makes it unusable for hotels guests during these functions! Service in this terraces is restricted, if you sit few meters away waiters won’t serve you!

One of our favorite stays during our trip. This hotel is stunning in every way. It's outside of the city center area, but there is a bus stop right outside the gate. Being on the lake was such a beautiful and relaxing break from many of the other city center hotels we stayed in while traveling. The staff was friendly and extremely accommodating. The room was large and very comfortable. The breakfast, I have no words. I've never seen so much variety at a breakfast buffet. This accommodation was at our higher price point, but worth every penny.

The location and views were incredible! Getting there on a Saturday in the summer with all the traffic on the street with people illegally parked for the pool or stream made it challenging. Instructions at pre-check in going forward on what route to arrive due to such issues would be helpful. We just went via Google Maps not knowing there would be problems.

This was a return visit, as we also stayed at Schloss Leopoldskron last year. The location is exceptional. Even without its connection to *The Sound of Music*, the setting would be enchanting. The lakeside grounds are stunning, and during our stay the gardens were in peak form, filled with hundreds of colorful flowers and framed by beautiful views of the lake and distant mountains. The rooms are attractive, comfortable, and impeccably clean, though not particularly opulent. Most accommodations are located in the annex, with only a handful of suites situated within the palace itself. The palace is open for guests to explore and, while its nearly 300-year-old interiors show their age and could benefit from some renovation, it remains an authentic and fascinating piece of Salzburg history. Do not miss the breakfast. The generous buffet includes an excellent selection of breads, meats, cheeses, pastries, egg dishes, and other offerings. Dining in the magnificent Venetian Room, with its panoramic views of the lake and mountains, makes the experience especially memorable and the staff is very attentive, bringing drinks to the table. We enjoy walking into town and up to the fortress. The path passes over a stream and through beautiful meadows, making the 20–30 minute walk as enjoyable as the arrival into town. The property also has bicycles for guest use around the property, around the lake, and around town. Above all, the staff are warm, welcoming, and consistently helpful, making every stay a pleasure. As mentioned, I would love to see a benefactor undertake a thoughtful restoration of the palace. It is a remarkable piece of Salzburg history that deserves a little TLC, though maintaining such an extensive estate must be enormously expensive. Having said that, the room rates would likely be far less reasonable if the property were fully restored to a pristine, opulent condition. In its current state, the Schloss has a warmth and intimacy that make it feel more like a gracious home than a grand museum, and that charm is very much part of its appeal.

Close to Salzburg. Modern accommodations in a historic building Price is consistent with quality...not cheap, but what should be expected for the quality.
