Casa Azabache

Location, staff and room were all excellent The bathroom was outside the bedroom area and the water heater was noisy and right by the bedroom door. No opening windows or natural light or air.

All of the staff were helpful, friendly, and communicative. The outdoor patio was lovely, especially with the birdsong. My particular room was spacious, and had adequate storage for a few nights. In order to have ventilation, the windows needed to be open. But then there was little privacy, and you could hear all the other guests. There were no screens on the windows, but perhaps there are few mosquitoes; I don’t know. A fan in the room would be VERY helpful. The bed in my particular room was horribly creaky, as was the door to the bathroom.

Both of the regular front desk staff were friendly and helpful. They arranged tours for us and gave us good tips about seeing the town. Good location. There were a number of posted amenities that were not accurate. Eg. Shuttle from airport - the cost would have been $1800 so we were advised by the hotel to take a collectivo. No coffee make as advertised in our room and making coffee in the common kitchen was problematic at times. Mainly it was very cold in the room. We did request and receive an electric heater which helped.

Location was good, place was nice and front office friendly. Internet was unstable and at times when entering the room their was a smell typical of closed places.

The hostel has a very strong emphasis on silence, which may suit some travelers but wasn’t quite the right fit for me. The internet connection was a bit unreliable during my stay. I missed the posted rules initially (my mistake), and I was kindly but firmly asked to return to my room after talking on the phone past 10:30pm. The next morning, I went to make myself a coffee in the kitchen but was told I couldn’t use it until after 10:30am due to the same silence policy, and staff had to make the coffee for me. While I understand and respect quiet hours—especially in shared spaces—I found the enforcement of silence from 10:30pm all the way to 10:30am to be a bit excessive. As someone who is naturally quiet and values peace, I still felt the rules were somewhat rigid and left little room for reasonable activity, especially in the morning. That said, I do take responsibility for not noticing the rules earlier in my stay. After reading other reviews, it’s clear that noise has been an issue in the past, so I can see why management would implement such policies. If you’re looking for a very peaceful, silent environment and don’t mind a late start to your morning routine, this hostel could be a great fit. Just be sure to read the house rules carefully to avoid any surprises. X

Good property and location, nice decoration, comfortable bed,attentive staff… plenty of restaurants around. Happy I choose this hotel for my time in San Cristobal. Highly recommended and best wishes to business!

The hotel was centrally located and very comfortable. The staff were helpful and friendly. Everything was clean and pleasant. The cost of the room was very reasonable for what it offered. They helped me set up tours. The shared bathroom was not very close to my room, but it really wasn't an inconvenience.

Azabache is a sweet little hotel, clean and pretty.

Kind staff, rooms are comfortable. You can make your own coffee or tea and there is a tap for drinking water. Location is great.

Exceptional

For being in the middle of a city, the casa felt calm, cozy and quiet. The staff are kind and caring. I will go back next time I am in SC! The shared bathroom is located too close to the communal space and kitchen for my preference, so I changed to a room with a private bathroom.
