Guesthouse Le Châtelain

The location was good a short walk to Bikini Beach and a shuttle bus ride to Pronta Preta beaach where you could use the sun beds for free. The pool was only a 1-2 min walk away, quiet and if you put your sunbeds near the clubhouse its not too windy. Most of the house was clean, the air con was very effective and the kitchen had all you needed to prepare and cook your own meals. A supermarket just a few mins walk away was well stocked. It is a shared house with 2 other double rooms and all the people we met were very pleasant and it was good to meet other people. There is a shuttle bus into Santa Maria (not very frequent) or a 5 euro taxi or a 25min walk. A lot busier in the town so we liked the quiet of the guesthouse. When we made the booking we saw many reviews about Peter and how attentive he was and well he managed the property. We did not know that the management changed the week we arrived. In the weeks before the arrived we emailed many questions but nothing was answered. The communication was very poor until we eventually got hold of Agnes two days before our arrival. She now manages the guesthouse. She was quick to respond, but we saw very little of her, the first time being on day 7 of our 8 day holiday. The WIFI did not work in the top 2 bedrooms (only downstairs) and we had to remind her about things like replacing water. Also the top terrace was very dusty and not useable. The boiler is located on the top floor near our room and it was making awful noises throughout the night. It turned out that it needed replacing (Day 7) so hopefully this will now be sorted. Also despite saying there is a free taxi from and to the airport in the Booking.com descriptions this is not the case. Although Agnes did honour this with our taxi on arrival. We are confident that all of these issues should be sorted and any future reservations should not have these issues.

No issues with the property, and our host Peter, was amazing!! Only issue was with the surrounding area having been neglected. Pool area was suddenly tidied and cleaned - toilets unlocked, when AGM was taking place, I’m presuming lack of attention is due to the time of year of our stay? Toptip: place sun beds near club house - it’s less windy there!

After a week in Santa Maria, where the cacophony of car noise and barking dogs tested our patience, we finally found a sanctuary in Vila Verde. It was here that we met Peter, an incredibly kind and helpful man who immediately made our stay a memorable experience. The apartment was spacious and sparkling clean, perfectly equipped with everything we could dream of. Every little detail had been thoughtfully considered, making us feel right at home. Peter ensured that we had all we needed, and his warm and welcoming nature made us feel instantly at ease. Thank you, Peter, for this occasion and for creating an oasis of tranquility in our travels. We now know exactly where to stay the next time we visit this beautiful island. Your hospitality will always be remembered, and our hearts are filled with gratitude.

The property had a fantastic atmosphere with clean and spacious rooms. The owners were very friendly and accommodating, making sure every need was met. The location was perfect—close to the beach and local attractions, yet peaceful and quiet for relaxation. There was nothing significant to dislike. Everything was well-maintained, and the overall experience exceeded expectations.

Large property with a good bedrooms and indoor/outdoor living space. Good surrounding facilities such as supermarket, beach etc. Parking outside the front door and cute garden. I was expecting a bed and breakfast as per advertisement - assuming that the owner lived there and that this was a stand-alone property. I hadn't appreciated that is was an apartment in part of a huge tourist resort. Not my sort of choice

Lovely house, clean and well-maintained in a neighborhood of similar houses/apartments a 10 minute drive (free shuttle bus) from the center of Santa Maria. The owner is a lovely, kind person whose sincere wish to make one's stay pleasant shines through. Being able to cook and eat on the beautiful, shaded patio was a welcome plus. Pool is a 1 minute walk, beautiful beach is a 7 minute walk.

If you like a quiet, cozy place with a caring, super nice host - then booking Le Chatelain is a must ?

A lovely, comfortable place at an amazing location. The property is very close to the one of the nicest beaches on the island and a supermarket; also equipped with all the tools in the kitchen. Most importantly, you couldn’t wish for a better host! Peter was super friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a comfortable and very enjoyable stay. N/A
