The View Hotel

The View is a boutique hotel set high on a cliff, just north of São Filipe. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town, it is a wonderful place to stay as your base for exploring Fogo Island. It was built as a home, a mansion, really, but the owner decided to turn it into a hotel. The finishings are top-notch. The definite highlight for us was the kindness of Waldo, the manager of the property. He couldn’t do enough for us. His offers of assistance were genuine. We had decided not to drive up to the crater in our rental car because we thought the drive would be too difficult. But he shared details with us about the route, and in the end, we felt confident enough to tackle it, thanks to him. It turned out to be the highlight of our entire vacation to Cabo Verde. He has a gift for hospitality and his care of your stay will add a lot to your experience. Nothing comes to mine. Please note, however, that you would be well served to have a rental car. If you choose to stay there, just because it is outside the town. But you could always use taxis to go back-and-forth.

Our stay at The View Hotel Cape Verde was truly unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the owner personally greeted us and made us feel immediately welcome, setting the tone for the entire experience. That kind of personal touch is rare and made us feel like more than just guests. The restaurant staff were incredibly attentive, especially when it came to my son’s severe dairy allergy. They took the time to understand his needs, carefully explained what he could safely eat, and made sure he felt included and taken care of at every meal. As a parent, that level of awareness and kindness means everything. Our room was breathtaking. It was spacious, beautifully designed, and an incredible value for the level of comfort and quality. The view faces the Atlantic Ocean, and it is honestly hard to put into words. It feels as if you are floating in the clouds above the water, watching the horizon stretch endlessly. A fun and unique touch were the blue lights in the room that make neon colors glow. Anything neon absolutely pops, giving the space a cool, modern vibe. As a family of four, we even had our own little neon party at night. One of our favorite moments was relaxing in the infinity style jacuzzi. Sitting there together as a family and looking out over the ocean and the town below truly makes you feel like you are on top of the world. The food was exceptional throughout our stay. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. Combined with the warm hospitality of everyone at the hotel, the experience exceeded our expectations in every way. I highly recommend trying the black caipirinha. If you are visiting São Filipe, this place is something special. We left feeling relaxed, grateful, and already hoping to return.

The pool, restaurant, and bar are located on the lower portion of the property. The pool is large and kept clean. There is a club located below the pool area and multiple stages for parties, concerts, and events. The staff was extremely nice and responsive to any requests. Wifi in the rooms and on certain parts of the hotel was spotty. They also allow some school groups and communoccasionally. bring children to the pool occasionally. The only constructive feedback I have to provide is that the outside pool area could use some fresh paint.
