Le Méridien Shanghai, Minhang

The room was equipped with a Japanese toilet washlet and a spacious bath tub. Big plus ! 4 bottles complimentary water per day. Excellent shower room. A few English language channels incl. Discovery. Japanese NHK int. Being February, Shanghai was cold. The room "Aircon" does not deserve the name. It was hot in the room, regardless of temp. setting. When switched off, the room quickly became rather cold. Choice between sweating or freezing. Bed covers were not changed, only "made" (straightened). I had the same blood spots (mine) on pillows and duvet during the entire 12 day stay. Room corners were not vacuumed. Same dirt there during the entire stay.

I typed 10 paragraphs and I deleted it all. Lets just say I stayed here 3 nights with my wife and while not everything was what it should be, the response from the hotel staff has been excellent. If you run into any issues with your stay, be assured that the staff will immediately address your concern. I stayed in 8 hotels/villas during my 4 week vacation across Japan and China and this last stay at the end of my trip did not disappoint me. 1. I can hear the traffic noise despite being on the 10th floor (highest floor you can get). Nothing the staff can do about it so I would not fault the hotel. It is that the hotel is built right next to a busy street and people on their scooters deem it necessary to use their horn every few seconds. 2. The tv is a bit small...40 inch ? Sorry I was just at a different hotel in Shanghai at half the cost and the TV was 75 inch. 3. Every member of the staff was polite and helpful except for the 1 staff that was servicing the desk to the gym and swimming pool. She was rude and condescending. Me and my wife were lined up behind this lady whom the staff was serving. After the lady entered, me and my wife approached and the staff did frowned at us and before we even said anything, the staff said "you two guests here ?". We were shocked. Why would anyone go into a hotel and go to basement level of the building for the gym and swimming pool if they werent guests? What kind of question was that ? The staff did not ask that question to the lady in front of us. Like if you wanted to safeguard the facilities, you could have just welcomed me my wife with a smile and asked us for our hotel room number or room card , that way you could verify that we are guests without blatantly questioning us as if me and my wife did not belong. I told the staff that we were guests and showed her our room card and she just stood there and asked "okay, but why are you here ?". I had wanted to check out the gym facilities and also see if there is a hot tub with the swimming pool but she was not very helpful. She just sort of followed me and my wife around ....even into the gym. Maybe she thought she was giving me a tour ? But her words and action made me feel like I am being monitored. We finished our quick view and said we will come later and the staff said "oh you have to be in swimming gear" and we were like "no kidding eh ?".

Loved the breakfast and that it starts quite early. It was a pleasant surprise that the hotel uses malin+goetz bathroom amenities! I love that brand. The hotel was very close to commercial establishments that we can walk to during our downtime.

Breakfast selection was nice The hairdryer did not work. The shampoo and body wash bottle in the shower were empty. So, I could not have a shower and dry my hair after I got wet. Terrible experience

I ordered in-service room dinner , it came very cold I was not even to have half of the food. I had food poisoning for 2 days after that.

The location here is excellent. Close to Vanke mall which has everything and it's also right beside a nice river that has classy bar, you have to look for it. It's on the pathway. Also, there are nice restaurants there. There's a KTV right next door too and another less quiet bar. You can get into other districts quite quickly using the metro, which is probably better than getting a Taxi at rush hour. The breakfast was nice and they have a nice Café and offer you a free barista coffee. I think this and the breakfast may have been free because of using booking.com. Be careful of the 500 RMB deposit for the room. You'll get it back but it shocked me a little bit on the bill at the start. But they were really prompt in responding to my question on booking.com in relation to it. The bathroom had a bit of a smell and slightly stained floor. This can happen as maybe sometimes some foreign visitors in China don't realise the water pressure levels are not the same as abroad.
