Location Tiny room with tiny bed

Location is the only nice thing about the hotel. 2 minutes walk from Takayama station Very old building, shady looking. Smelled really bad, like old and used, grease and tobacco. Just awful. Bedroom was very small, bed was way too tight for two people and very uncomfortable (rock hard). Our room window faced the backside, so if you want to open it in order to ventilate the room a bit (trust me, you will need it), it will smell like food from the restaurant and Family Mart below. We had breakfast included in our stay, but did not eat at all, because the greasy smell from the restaurant first thing in the morning was nauseating. Last but not least, the leave your room key by the reception every time you want to go out is just a no go for me. They only give you one and tell you that if you lose it you have to pay 30.000 JPY lol. Also, reception is located on the 2nd floor and the elevator always and inevitably stops there. It all gave me a weird manipulative energy tbh.

The only thing I liked there is that it's close to the train and the location was good other than that nothing. Oh and the TV was nice Almost everything, I'll start with the staff. I came and there was one that helped me with a face that he didn't like me for some reasons, maybe all tourists. Than the big shock was that he said everytime I go out I need to give them the keys because if I lose them it's 30,000 Yen fee which is extremely!!! But extremely funny and absurd. Like, am I losing diamonds? Second, the room was smaller than expected. Couldn't move there, was really uncomfortable and I wasn't happy at all. Third and maybe the biggest one even. There was a day I came back sometime at the afternoon and there was an old japanese guy there coughing to the death, literally blood came out all over his hand and mouth. I swear to God that was extremely scary even for a big man like me. After going up shocked and scared I told this to the staff and they said 'dont worry it's fine, leave it." At this point I wanted to leave the hotel and just pay whatever nights I had left... This was a complete waste of money and time and If I knew it from the start I would pay double the price for a night there at any hostel or capsule hotel available. I can't say enough I'm even super furious writing it. It was absurd, humiliating and devastating. I thought of calling the police when the man that almost died coughing was there.. This place was a complete deasaster and I beg everyone to read this carefully and seriously. Don't go near this hotel even if you need to pay triple the price somewhere else.

Not really worth the price. It was quite old, rooms were tiny and not very comfortable
-
the surroundings nothing

All, nice staff! Only 2 massage machines and there were busy all of the time

- Location is so close to train and bus station. - Breakfast is good - Staff can speak English
-
Room was a bit outdated. Did not feel very clean. Very basic bathroom. Every time you leave the hotel you need to hand in the key at reception and when you return you tell them your room number to get it back. Bit of a awkward system.

It was just short stay but very nice. Perfect location - friendly staff - good service.
-
pretty near from the JR train station, good options for food and pharmacy
-
Even the non-smoking room felt like a barely repainted smoking room.
-
Near the old town Small Oporto

They have a weird rule-every time we leave the hotel, we’re supposed to leave the keys on reception, and every time we come back, we have to pick them up. They must have a reason behind the rule, but to us it didn’t make any sense and was a source of inconvenience.

Just opposite to JR Hida Takayama station, the staff are very helpful. We stayed in a twin room with sofa bed ,so seem to have enough space. The hotel is quite old.

We recently stayed at the Country Hotel Takayama for three nights, from October 5th to October 8th, and we could not have been more pleased with our experience. As a senior citizen couple, we prioritize comfort, convenience, and a welcoming atmosphere, and this hotel delivered on all fronts. Exceptional Location and Accessibility The location is truly a highlight. It is conveniently situated near public transportation, making it incredibly easy for us to explore the beautiful city of Takayama without the stress of long walks or complex navigation. The hotel entrance is wheelchair accessible, which we appreciated, ensuring smooth movement with our luggage and for those who may need assistance. Comfortable and Well-Equipped Rooms Our room was clean, quiet, and provided a very comfortable sanctuary after a day of sightseeing. The air conditioning/heating worked perfectly for the early October weather, and the heated toilet seat was a pleasant, modern touch. We found the room well-maintained, and we understand all guest rooms were renewed in 2017, which definitely shows in their fresh feel. Convenient Amenities We loved the convenience of having a 24-hour Family Mart convenience store right on the first floor—it was perfect for picking up snacks and essentials at any time. The laundry service was also very helpful during our stay, adding to the ease of our travels. The staff were always polite and helpful, contributing to a stress-free environment. Overall Experience Country Hotel Takayama offers great value and a genuinely pleasant stay for older travelers. We felt secure, comfortable, and well-cared for. We highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area, especially those seeking a hassle-free and accessible base from which to enjoy the charming sights of Takayama. We would happily stay here again.
