We were very happy our choice of Japanese breakfast. It was delicious and ample amount of food.

Terrific location near the train station and walkable to interesting parts of town. Overly priced hotel trying to be an authentic ryokan. Staff felt overbearing and seemed to hover over guests. The most expensive and touristy place I stayed in my two week vacation.

Good location and lovely staff. Nice kimonos in room. Onsen was pretty. Attractive lobby. I did not like the room and sleeping on the floor. Bathing facility in room was not comfortable. Odd smell in bathroom area. Could use some updating.

Having already stayed in two other ryokans during our trip, we felt we had a reasonable basis for comparison. The staff at Oyado were friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay, and there were several thoughtful touches that we appreciated. The breakfasts were very good, with plenty of fruit and bread available alongside a choice of egg dishes or a traditional Japanese breakfast. The complimentary evening sake was a lovely gesture, and the foot massager proved very popular after long days of sightseeing. We were also provided with two kimonos each, which added to the experience. One of the highlights was the private bath, which we booked for an evening. It was clean, well equipped and thoughtfully stocked with towels, water and even a face mask, making it a relaxing and enjoyable experience. We stayed for two nights and enjoyed some aspects of the experience, but we were glad our stay was not longer. With some investment and updating, the hotel could be much more appealing. We felt the hotel as a whole was looking tired and would benefit from significant investment and refurbishment. The communal areas lacked the quality we had experienced elsewhere, and our room felt dated. The futon mattresses were extremely thin and, as they were laid directly on the floor, resulted in the worst night's sleep of our trip. The bathroom was adequate, but the towels were threadbare and overdue for replacement.

Great location Needs some to redo interior.

The hotel was a peaceful haven. It was centrally located, but very quiet. The room was traditionally Japanese & lovely. The "Western breakfast" contained some odd items such as broccoli, corn on the cob, & carrots-all cooked.

Location was perfect… walking to restaurants and browsing around the town was easy

The staff was incredibly warm and helpful and welcoming and did a great job. The policies of the hotel however and the cleanliness were poor and unacceptable for the extremely high cost.

It’s beautiful and easy to find. There wasn’t much I didn’t like. The view from my room was amazing, but my other experiences there overrode that.

A little tired looking for the cost.

Our room was cozy & warm despite the unexpectedly cold March weather. Japanese breakfast was different every day, interesting and delicious. The onsen was a great experience. Location 2-3 minutes from the train station couldn't have been better; it was still an easy walk to the rest of Takayama. Staff were attentive and friendly, happily fetching & storing our many pairs of shoes. Their recommendations for local kaiseki restaurants were good; Kakusyo was an amazing place to eat. We can't fault this lovely ryokan.

Location is central to station and center city attractions. Fast, easy and stress less. Plenty attentive and knowledgeable staff. Surprised by extras like sake tasting, yukata and kimono options. Impressed by the care and quality of the breakfast experience that changed per person per day. Hiigh quality experience that caters to foreigners who may want to experience a bit of cultural highlights with a personal touch. Outstanding experience but I dont know that it is particularly a good option for young, active children. The breakfast atmosphere is very calm, quiet and zen like. I personally would not be comfortable bringing very young children that could disrupt the atmosphere.
