Great location, with kind staff. They had private baths to reserve that were nice.

The hotel was so pretty and comfortable, it was very cool that it's in an old machiya with a very nice lounge that guests can relax in and access tea/coffee and just chill. The staff were very helpful and helped to make dinner reservations and other enquiries too. The bookable private baths were clean and relaxing, with good amenities. The rooms were spacious and comfortable too! There was also a laundry room with a washer and dryer and provided washing liquid that was super convenient. The check-in process is very slow when it comes to a big group because it all has to follow a specific online process, where there is only one iPad to check in on. In addition, it should have been clear to me on hindsight that a machiya would not have lifts, so just someting to bear in mind. The staff were very helpful and helped to bring suitcases up and down the steps however. Location was quite far from the main station/bus terminal if you have a lot of luggage, but it means it was also halfway to the old town, which was nice.

Very friendly and helpful staff. The property is located a short walk to the bus station and a short walk to the old district. Perfect. We loved the lobby/sitting area that offered coffee, tea and snacks. It was very cozy. Plenty of restaurants close by and a convenience store just a five minute walk away. It was all good.

- Location is very near to the attractions and besides the main river of the city - Good design house - Clean - Parking is quite far from the accommodation >> not convenience to loading big luggage >> even park in-front of house 5 mins for uploading >> the owner of parking lot was angry. - It is not easy to drive in the small town due to traffic jam, crowded& one way route.

What a great find in Takayama. Located in a quiet neighborhood, yet just an easy walk to the main attractions. The room was really spacious, with a great shower, comfortable beds, and good air conditioning. Everything made for a very relaxing stay. We loved this place and will definitely return. N/A

Machiya Hotel's location was superb! It was nice being away from the train station and a little bit away from the river, honestly, because the hotel was so quiet and peaceful. The bed was SO COMFY, it was the best sleep I had in the 3 week trip.

The room was quite large and the staff were wonderful. The interior other than the lobby were all quite dark including paint colours and fabrics. It gave the impression that it was old and tired and dirty but it was clean. They should repair chips in the wood and brighten up the decor. Note there is not elevator and the stairways are narrow and we only had carryon luggage

We spent 5 of our 21 days in Japan at the Machiya Hotel in Takayama. The staff was kind, cheerful and helpful. We enjoyed their hospitality. The room was clean and the coffee was exceptional! Like most of our other stays, the room was on the small side.

Staff were extremely supportive of the young children in the family, very attentive and caring. Always had a smile and positive greeting. The breakfast was delicious and the cookies, candies, etc., as well. Really can't think of anything, it was so very positive.

The property was in a great location with comfortable, large rooms and everything we could need. The staff were incredibly kind. They made the stay our favourite of three weeks in Japan. They were so good to our children, they truly went above and beyond. The breakfast was delicious and very filling. We cannot say enough great things about this hotel! Nothing!

The hotel preserves the best of traditional Japanese aesthetics and craftmanship with contemporary flair. There were ojami cushions and traditional long pillows in the rooms, and the lounge area is beautifully curated with books and flower arrangements. Very peaceful - and the hotel was fully booked! The hinoki private bath is a real treat. Nothing. I loved everything about this hotel.

The breakfast and all the selections were really great. We like the most the lounge area especially when you need a space at night to rest and take a break after a long travel outside. It's very relaxing. Nothing much. But maybe it would be good to have other coffee flavor.

The arrangement, setup, interior decor of the hotel was beautiful. Not to mention the hotel staffs' wonderful hospitality. It made our 3D2N stay there all the more memorable. A parking bay was arranged for us as it was conveyed to them during our booking that we required one and it was located next to the most quaint coffeeshop (RinRin) run by an elderly couple, serving simple, affordable breakfast. The hotel was located away from the main area but still relatively close (approximately 8-10min walk) to the morning markets, food establishments and the central bus/train terminals. Highly recommend this place to stay during your visit to Takayama! Nothing really. Everything was perfect and met all our needs, not to mention, exceeding our expectations!
