Famous House Kathmandu - Hostel

To start with the place itself: excellent location, brand new, super clean and fresh, hot water, everything is perfect to the each small detail. The owners: you feel that they put all their heart in it. They are very friendly, loving and kind. It felt like going back home to dear close family, not just a famous house. Dear Smriti and Puru, thank you so much to take care of me like I am your sister and being extra supportive with my injury. Came for a visa run, left with a new family in Katmandu ?

One of the best hostels in the area, conveniently located near Thamel. The location is excellent, and the staff are professional, friendly, and attentive. The owner, Puru, was especially kind and helpful in assisting with all arrangements and ensuring a comfortable stay. The food was delicious, and the hostel was consistently neat, clean, and peaceful. Cheap No hot water

Famous House Kathmandu is approximately 15 mins walking distance from chaotic Thamel street in a residential area. It has a nice rooftop restaurant where you can chill out. Breakfast was prepared by our humble and caring chef Mr. Manoj. Food was homely and warm. Mr. Naveen at the reception and overall care taker of the property was very helpful, friendly and prompt. Always ready to answer your queries and help in whatever manner possible. Thank you Naveen and hope to see you when I visit Nepal again for ABC trek. Famous House Kathmandu is a Youth Hostel not a regular hostel that we had imagined. Other hostels we stayed had private rooms with bathroom en suite in hostel. Bathroom was outside the room though just in front of the room. No geyser. Lot of time wasted in manually heating water using the heating rod.

Nothing No hot water. Only after asking we were advised there had been no hot water for over 2 weeks. Woken at 5.30AM by someone who had come off the street knocking on our door and trying handle our room on 1st floor. I had to take him to staff who were sleeping and they were not interested. We left the hostel that day as felt unsafe paying for 1 night. Hostel advised Booking.com we had not showed up and tried to get us to pay for cancelled booking.

Famous House Kathmandu is a chilled place for a very good price. The rooms a big, the rooftop restaurant has a nice flair and view, the reception area is also huge and they have nice stuff (which allowed us to keep our stuff and bicycles over the day before we left in the afternoon). It's within a few minutes walking distance to Thamel, but still in the not to touristic and overpriced part of the center. We just stayed one night cause it's very close to the indian visa application center and will come back again when we receive our visa. They just had a problem with the hot water in the shower , but were very solution oriented and brought us inmediatly a huge bucket and water heater.

Very good location, quite neighbourhood, close to Thamel. Friendly and helpful staff. Basic, budget accomodation, perfect match with our plans. We had only cold water, without a good pressure,but enaugh to have a quick shower.

breakfest is ok but dosen't look like in the photo on booking - low price - roof top is nice lack of hot water - place is like a student dorm so it's really laud - very basic barhroom (which also dosen't look like in a photo) so there is almost no space to put your staff and it's not the cleaniest one.

The location was good. A short walk from the centre of Thamel. My bedroom was big and spacious. The bed was really uncomfortable. The shared bathrooms were very basic and appeared slightly clean on the surface. My shower was cold. A large group of Nepali boys/men stayed the same night as me and made a lot of noise until late at night, and they left urine on the floor in the bathroom. Overall a really overpriced stay.

We had a large room with a double and a single bed. The WiFi was good WiFi, the staff were nice and they provided us with a good local breakfast which was also vegan. The rooftop restaurant had lovely views of the surrounding area. Unfortunately I saw a cockroach on the bed. The bed was also very hard and uncomfortable. The room smelt of damp and the corridor smelt of smoke. There was no hot water and we were told that there was a problem with the machine.

More of a student residence than a hotel

Very nice employees! Also trekking/activity service was absolutely fantastic! Rooftop gave a splendid view and rooms were comfortable. There are lockers, which I think is an important facility that Famous House offers. Wifi connection works very well. Tea and coffee are the best.

Good place, nice stay, staff very professional. Clean. Rooms are big. Location ok because you're not in the touristy crowd, but not far away at all if you like that (short walking distance). Shared toilets not that clean, but it's not the guesthouse fault. They cleaned on a regular basis, but it's depend on course of the users first. Also, water was yellow.

Great place in a good location. Value for money. Given the price, small things were totally acceptable.
