love the quiet neighborhood w few tourists

Location to Yanaka Ginza and Nippori station was excellent. Seven Eleven is across the street. Also a little walk from Nezu Shrine. Annex was clean and comfortable. Staff were kind. Lobby with tables was very accommodating. Room included robes and slippers. Tatami beds were surprisingly comfortable. Good wi-fi. Powerful A/C.

A modernized three-story ryokan conveniently located in the heart of the Yanaka District, an easy walk from Nippori Station (for direct access from and to Narita Airport on the Keisei Line, plus the JR Yamanote Line) and steps from Sendagi Station on the Chiyoda Line (more on this below). The tatami rooms feel quite spacious by Tokyo standards--I especially like the open shelving design which looks smart and is quite practical. There is an elevator in this building, making access easier to the upper floors. There are many eating options nearby, including a hole-in-the-wall style Chinese restaurant called Mao Family Noodle Shop located a few storefronts away from the nearest Sendagi Station entrance. For people who like delicious and robustly flavoured Chinese food, I highly recommend their mabo tofu with white rice--wow that was incredible, after I requested they prepare it with extra numbing pepper (extra "hua jiao" in Mandarin). Evening walks in the neighbourhood were a delight. Overall, I enjoyed my stay here. Some of the fixtures have a bit of a yellow aged feeling, so this property is starting to show its age. The owners at the front desk are friendly and helpful when present, but there seem to be long stretches when no-one is around, giving a bit of a "home alone" feeling (I suppose some guests may view this as a plus, but for a family run ryokan in Japan it does feel a bit distant). Finally, prospective guests should note that taking the Chiyoda Line into the city in the morning, and out of the city (i.e. back to Sendagi Station) in the evening, is not for the faint of heart!

Excellent location. Great-value for solo and couples. Sleep on futon in traditional tatami floor. The ryokan is walking distance from Nishi-Nippori (train & skyline) station (12") and Sendagi (Tokyo subway, C-Chiyoda line) station (4"). The owners are very kind and helpful. Althought he Ryokan does not include breakfast, if you want the full local experience you can walk 10" to a traditional Japanese breakfast & meal at a small-quiet and cozy restaurant called 'Ichirantei'. P.S. there are also public bathhouses within walking distance, if you like that type of experience.

Wonderful and helpful hosts. Great location. Traditional.

The room was exactly what we needed for a comfortable night. Excellent location amongst little shops and restaurants. The best bakery is nearby and opens early at 6 am. The staff spoke fluent English. The instructions for everything (including the thermostat) were also in English. Nice area to sit and eat our food in the lobby downstairs. Washer and dryer were very handy.

A sweet Japanese style in Taito right near the Yanaka district. Easy access to buses and the subway. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast at Coffee Chi-zu right across the street. We’d stay here again. The bathroom is has a step which can be tricky if one gets up at night ?

Japanese-style room with lots of shelves so we could unpack and stay organized. Location was perfect, very near Sendagi Station made it easy to get all over Tokyo. Street has lots of interesting restaurants and coffee shops, but is still pretty chill compared to a lot of Tokyo. Owners were friendly and helpful, laundry machines by the front desk worked well and the owner supplies the soap.

Perfect location, nice, clean, spacious

I loved everything about this place. The owners are lovely, and so helpful. Very comfortable room. Great location…tons of restaurants around. The neighborhood is vibrant and fun.

I loved the location, the price balance and the traditional feel. The staff was very kind and helpful. It is great that its a ryokan but with private bathrooms.
-
Very very quiet and helpful. They gave us very good recommendations and the rooms were very comfortable! Nothing, our stay exceeded expectations.
-
How it was located in a nicer residential area with plenty of konbini near by and excellent restaurants. It got a little noisy a few days due to street work
-
That I couldn't stay longer(not their fault)
-
Spacious room with very comfortable futon. The location is close to Nippori train station which makes it very easy to go to other hubs in Tokyo. The region is very quiet and full of gems to explore, like Yanaka Ginza marketplace and the best Gyoza we had at Hanaya.
-
There were no hangers and no place in the room to hang jacket.
-
Superb location in a very cozy neighborhood, kind and helpful staff, overall a super comfortable stay and we were sad to leave it! Can definitely see myself returning here. Also loved the lighting (can control brightness, warmth). No blackout blinds so if you're a light sleeper sensitive to morning light, pack a sleep mask.

Tatami! N/A

Wish there was a breakfast possibility at the place.

The locationwas ideal. Very convenient to shopping, restaurants, and transportation! Entering the bathroom had a very high step to go in and then a step down. A potential hazard. Tookmea couple of days to adapt.
