APA Hotel Ueno Ekimae

The location was excellent, walkable to many interesting spots, and very close to Ueno Station. The breakfast was not the best I've had at APA hotels; it was fine, not great.

Great Breakfast I liked everything

Great location

Rooms were very clean and equipped with all facilities. Bahroom was also very good. Great location in the heart of Tokyo. Very close to the Ueno station. Room was small and dark. The check-in time is exactly 3 pm and they did not allow me to check-in even 10 minutes earlier.

No issues really

The location to the train station is great. The public bath is a nice feature however if you have ever been to natural hot springs this was more like a hot tub. The under bed storage was a much needed benefit as the rooms are very small. Rooms are tiny. Not a lot of room to move around.

Hard to find hotel

Location: Reasonably near to both JR Ueno station and Keisei Ueno station. Requires all of 10 minutes walking, 15 minutes if you have lots of luggage. The path to Keisei Ueno is entirely flat, while the path from JR Ueno requires some overbridges but with elevators. The location itself is almost right next to Ameyoko street market. Plenty of food and shopping available. 9/10 Cleanliness: No complaints. 10/10 Security: You need your room access card to access the lifts. 10/10 Service: The staff are friendly and professional. They can speak English and Mandarin. No complaints. They also offer luggage storage, and can accept baggage deliveries and sending. 10/10 Amenities: The amenities provided are in your rooms. Quality of the amenities is reasonable. 8/10 Laundry: There are 4 self-service washing machines and 4 dryers, and there is a coin changing machine next to the machines. Enough for a property of this size. Room facilities: The layout is otherwise highly optimised for a small room for 2. There are sufficient spaces to hang up clothes, both in the toilet and outside. There is also a universal power socket - not very common in Japan. Wifi: this is one of the rarer hotels that has secured wifi for each room. This improves performance and security tremendously. 10/10 Room layout: I understand that the room size was clearly communicated, but the layout still feels cramped. Depending on where you place your luggages, you cannot get off the bed or out of the room if they are all open. But at least you can stuff your luggages under the bed. While there is a desk, once you sit at the desk you block off that part of the room. 5/10 Toilet: In order to fit a bathtub and shower in the small space available, the tap for the bathtub also serves the sink. Swivel the tap to one side to fill the bathtub, and to the other side to serve the sink. While it is a clever idea, there are compromises that make the tap very difficult to use for washing of hands. The tap comes with an auto-off function for low flow rates - turn it below a certain flow rate, it automatically turns off within 1-2 seconds - but it makes it very hard to wash your hands after using the toilet. Alternatively, if you turn on the tap beyond the auto-off point, the flow rate is very large and makes it hard to wash your hands without flooding the sink or having water splash everywhere. Not ideal for washing hands after using the toilet. 0/10 Value for money: perhaps this is not within the hotel's control, but staying in Ueno is just expensive.

Hard to beat the price for the amount of comfort!

The staff were very friendly and helpful. They kept on refilling the stuff in the room. Fresh towels every day even when we did not need them

This hotel was clean and the bed comfortable. I would not want to share the room with anyone else though as it was very small.

I loved the location of the hotel. It was very close to the metro. The staff were very attentive and the overall room was perfect. There is a lot provided like a kettle, toothbrush, hairband and other things. I enjoy that they don’t do 24/7 housekeeping but you do have a choice to do daily. I love that they take trash every morning and there’s ice on the second floor Nothing other than the location was a bit far from shibuya and Shinjuku

Really close to Ueno station and a lot of food options even late at night.

Small room

Breakfasts had a wide range of choices. Staff in the kitchen were always helpful. There should be an extra toaster as if there are several wanting toast, it was a long wait., I chose not to have toast. First day, I had trouble with my refrigerator so was fortunate to change to another room after a couple hours. I had to pack up quickly to move to the new room. Hopefully, other people never have to experience this. Thought I should have received some compensation in room price or given a free breakfast or something for this inconvenience. See above response.

it would be nice if they can accomodate overnight storage for luggages most especially if guests will check-in the nwxt day.
