Tokyo Ueno Touganeya Hotel

The location is a little "out of the way" but everything else was superb. Friendly staff, comfortable room more than adequate amenities and not impacted by the busy Ueno night-life

Location, location, location. I hate to say anything relative about this property and stuff. I chose a medium tier hotel on purpose, and the staff were unfailingly, courteous, considerate, and generous. But I would say that they should invest in a paint job and changing carpets. The foyer does have a sub basement feel overall I had a wonderful time, but the rooms could be freshened up a bit.

Good location, 5 min walk from Ueno station. The room was very clean. The lobby and hallways always smelled like food.

A great location in ueno area For some reason there was unknown smell in the hotel and rooms. I suggest to spray some refresher

Bed/pillow weren't the most comfortable. I was in Japan 3 weeks in 9 hotels and only this one hurt my back and neck. I had to try 4 diff pillows until finding one that didnt hurt as bad.

The location is fantastic with very short walk to escalator that takes you to Ueno Station, 7-11, Lawson, & small grocery store right around the corner. We had no trouble finding a couple of good restaurants nearby as well! Room is a little small, but it worked for us and bed was comfy.

Really love it. The room is fine and the price is reasonable with this good location. The most acknowledged is the staff that really really nice, kind, and friendly people. They are very good in helping customers. The location is very nice for the tourists who come to Tokyo with the train from Narita Airport. And around Ueno area there are many restaurants, shops, and great zoo and museums. The air condition (AC) is a little bit old and not that good for cooling the room. I think because of the weather in Japan is mostly cold weather. The hotel may not consider much about the AC. And I went to Japan during almost sumner, therefore I think this old AC is not really working well.

Clean Rooms and close to markets and train stations. Staff were friendly. Rooms are very cramped.

The location is fantastic and within a five minute walking distance of Ueno station. There are food and shops nearby. My room on the sixth floor had a noticeable sewage smell in the room and especially the bathroom. Upon reading past reviews, hotel staff are aware about this complaint. When I entered my room, I noticed an air freshener on my wall (to help cover the odor) - it didn’t work. I had to sleep with a mask on to help with the smell… Overall, it lead to a very uncomfortable stay. I recommend you skip this hotel if you’re sensitive to smells. Location is great and within walking distance to Ueno station.

Location close to train station, in-room coffee amenities, clean bedroom and bathroom, comfortable bed Very little space to navigate around the room. One of 2 people had to move out of the way so the other could get to desk area, into the bed, into the bathroom. Little space for suitcases.
