Hotel Messner

Excellent location in a quiet side canal round the corner from Accademia, bridge over the Grand Canal, and vaporetto stops. Pretty good value for Venice. Decor in room was very dowdy; carpets threadbare. Wi-fi didn't work in a room in the annex.

The price was reasonable, but did not justify the poor condition of the room. On the positive side, there were plenty of towels, and the location was quiet and peaceful. The room we stayed in is not part of any hotel. It is a standalone apartment in a different building several doors down from the Hotel Messner. The beds are very uncomfortable. There was squashed bugs all over the walls as well as many other marks. There were air conditioners that did not work, and no fans - a big problem during a heatwave. There was a wifi code provided that did not work, and a router that was plugged in but had no internet connection. There was trash in the trash can when we arrived. There was mold in the shower.

The rooms are not like the pictures, it is super old, the AC wasn't working in a temp. Of 37 degrees, i found a dead insect on the bed, the shower was full of shimmel and the room itself smelled I reached out to the reception on the first night, asking for a solution for the AC issue, he told me simply leave the hotel if you are not happy, and us "italians" learn how to adapt to open the windows and you will survive! I am not sure what was this relevant to an accomodation i paid for the AC service for I sent a complain email to the hotel management and i had no answer This is the absolute worst experience i have ever had in an accomodation

Nothing. Filthy.

The day desk clerk was helpful to the best she could and the shower was great We had to go down the street to get to our room and entered thru a dark creepy hall way (really creepy after dark) about 12 feet long. The air conditioner did not cool the room, we had to request a fan. We had to open 2 of 3 suitcases on the floor. There were cobwebs on the ceiling, one about 8 inches long (not exaggerating). There was no breakfast but not sure it was listing in amenities (my daughter booked the room). Was suppose to have WFI but did not. It had to come from the hotel proper and was told by other guest, it didn't work there either.

The listing claimed it had a shuttle to the airport, it does not. Pillows and bad were uncomfortable

Location Besides the location, everything was a let down. They should update the photos on the app to reflect how run down and dilapidated the property actually is. I understand it is an old city but really I would never have selected this property for the price they charged. I requested two twin beds, my request was acknowledged but ignored. The room was no bigger than a closet. The furniture was disgusting. No hair dryer, TV didn’t work, mould in the shower… The host walked us to the room, turned on the AC, pocketed the AC remote and left. Of course the AC didn’t work, we asked him to take a look at it and never saw him again. The temperature in Venice was insane this week. We opened the windows during the night as it was so uncomfortable and were bitten severely by mosquitoes. Also, they mentioned their walls are soundproof, em no! I had to listen to the neighbors fornicating and it was rather unpleasant and embarrassing for my son to listen to. All in all it made for an unpleasant 2 nights. In a nutshell they should update their photos and be honest about the facilities they offer.

Nothing went well. When we arrived no one was at the front desk. Busy showing guests to their rooms. We were in a building down the street. We had no tv, no internet, no a/c, mold everywhere. Room did not have twin beds. Stairwell dangerous without lighting. Broken window handle, ripped screens, electrical sockets not attached to the wall securely. Clerk made promises about getting internet/tv but he lied. Everything on their website is a lie. No airport shuttle service or continental breakfast.

Wifi didn't work.

The staff was wonderful! There is a restaurant and inside seating, seating outside along canal, and seating outside in a courtyard. The food was fabulous! Where we checked in was beautiful. No idea what the rooms are like in that spot. We went for least expensive room and it was a walk down and around the corner (like an annex in a separate house). Would totally go stay again! The shower stall walls had mildew. I do not think bleach is used in cleaning restrooms in Europe because I saw this in Hungary also.. The annex of hotel we stayed in was older and room was very compact.

Good location Moldy room, shower didn’t drain

The only good thing about this hotel was its location near the Basilica of Santa Maria. Everything else was a disaster, starting with the room not matching the photos on Booking, the lack of Wi-Fi, and the leaking shower (the entire bathroom floor would be soaked after a shower). To top it off, there was a musty smell in the room, and the receptionist was completely indifferent when we told him that the reality was nothing like what we expected. He simply said, "Sorry, you chose this room yourself" (even though I had selected a different one based on the description).

The exterior is beautiful, but unfortunately that’s where it ends. The room was disguising, damp and full of black mold. The staff were rude and dismissive, and not attentive to the guests.

Nothing Everything

I would strongly advise avoiding this property. I stayed at Hotel Messina (Venice, April 7–8) and had a very poor experience. Before arrival, my calls were cut when I spoke English and my messages were ignored, leaving us without directions late at night. On arrival (~11 PM), we discovered the reception and rooms were in different locations, with no elevator—forcing my elderly parents to climb stairs. We were also reassigned multiple times (Room 48 → 43 → 34), and the final room did not match what was booked. The room was in unacceptable condition: strong odor, visible mold, very small for four people, no proper hot water, and no garden view as advertised. My mother felt unwell due to the environment. Staff offered no real help and even suggested we could leave at midnight if unhappy. At checkout, we were offered a 10% refund or a refund in exchange for a positive review, which is highly unethical. Overall, this property lacks basic maintenance, transparency, and professionalism. I would not recommend it.

The area is very quiet because is the last stop of Venezia’s train station. The price is reasonable and the hotel is vintage and very comfortable. I had a good time there. The restaurant of the hotel is very pretty and the food is delicious. I liked the hotel very close to the water and the water bus station La Salute. The location is very far from the tram station but it’s a nice hotel.
