It’s nice to have an Albergue option on the Camiño Natural-Cantabrico. A friend lost the hostal keys. Had to pay 160 euro fee. Only one working shower and toilet for 16 beds. No ability to control the shower temperature. So shower was cold for me. The shower only stayed on for 30-45 seconds at a time. Only bunk curtains on 2 of the 16 bunks. There was a laundry machine and hair dryer, but there were locked away. Since there isn’t staff there except at 2pm and 8pm, I’m not sure how the laundry would be accessible. The hostal owner was very unprofessional about the lost key. A lot of drama instead of just letting us know there was a 160 euro fee. It took about 10 messages with odd requests and threats before we were told about the fee. I had to contact booking.com about the owner’s threats. She actually said loosing the key was the same as stealing from her. And she was going to the police and they would come for us. It was the oddest thing that I’ve ever experienced in decades of travel. Booking.com was great. They could see all the communication through the booking platform. They told us not to worry. It was a lost key. These things happen. They asked us just to pay the 160 euro fee. We thought the fee was outrageous. But there seemed to be some mental health issues involved here. It was a little sad. I’m not sure this Albergue will make it much longer. Only 5 people stayed the two nights we were there. And our group was 3 of them. We could have rented our own place for the price of this hostal. But we were trying to support an Albergue. Just please beware. It was not a great experience for us. Also it’s required to let the owners know if you will be checking in at 2pm or 8pm. That’s hard to do if you are a pilgrim. No staff available between those hours. Not a welcoming experience.
