Haka House Wanaka

Showed up late at night and the only way to check in was a QR code that didn't work. Received almost a dozen emails asking how my stay was in the past 2 days but I haven't interacted with a single member of staff.

Location was perfect opposite to the lake and town centre with plenty of parking onsite or on the road. Exceptional communal kitchen facilities and the room was so nice and clean. Nothing

Both the rooms and shared spaces were exceptionally clean, the staff were very friendly, and the location was super convenient. If I ever come back to Wānaka, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!

A wonderful place to stay with clean rooms and well-maintained facilities. All amenities were walking distance. A peaceful and unforgettable experience highly recommended.

The gravel-covered ground makes it difficult to drag my suitcase, and the room is quite far away.

Compared to the other haka house hostels this hasn't been updates, the layout of the hostel is very strange and not enough bathrooms for the amount of people. The mattresses also squeek when pwople moving around in them. The kitchen isn't too bad but again strangely laid out for a Hostel. I was disappointed compared to their my cook and wannaka hostel

I loved the location, it was very central and easy to find free parking close by. It was clean and the lounge area was nice. It wasn't super social but everyone was polite enough. The bed was comfy and the room was clean. Not super social.

Location is fantastic. Very close to town centre and a few blocks to the lake front. Public lounge and kitchen are kept reasonably clean. The dorm room is rather small. There is hardly space to organize luggage. There is a bathroom inside the 6-person dorm room but only one public toilet and one public shower stall for all dorm rooms to share. The price for the dorm bed is hefty.

I liked that I had my own room - I am not one for bunk rooms, though great that there is that facility as it seems very popular! Thin walls and drunk people - not that the venue can be responsible for that.

Great location behind Pembroke Park. Comfy and clean dorm beds with privacy curtains. Used this hostel chain last year and loved it. Unfortunately-The price has doubled since and the property isn’t cared for half as well. Felt like price gouging to me- especially since they’re charging even higher rates for a female only 6 bed dorm room. Cmon Hala House - a dorm bed is a dorm bed! On my first night there the trash was overflowing everywhere and our en-suite bathroom had no toilet paper. It was a Sunday sure, and maybe they were short staffed-but no TP at 3 am in your room’s only toilet was an unwelcome surprise. ?

Noise can travel. It is good that people were quiet and respectful at night though!

Location Friendly staff

The location of this hostel is perfect. It's close to "downtown" and the lake. There is a fair amount of free parking across the street. They also have a shared van going to the popular Roy's Peak hike twice a day. I liked having an ensuite shared bathroom. There is a fairly decent sized locker area in the room for each bed that you can lock if you bring your own lock. I liked having curtains on the bed for more privacy. I was assigned a top bunk and there was a skylight above me. In the summer, the sun doesn't set until late so there wasn't a way to make it dark until the sun set. Also, I had to strip my bed and take the sheets to the main lobby area which was not ideal when you are waking up and checking out early while trying to be quiet to those still sleeping. The main hang out areas were really hot during the day with the sun beaming through all the windows in the front. It was too hot to hang out in the building during the daytime.
