Hotel Nell - Union Market

The rooms were okay, but the space was not as big as it was displayed on the internet. The queen bedroom specifically is tighter than the room with two twins beds, so you’re better off getting a room with the twins beds (same price as the queen-sized room). Also, the bathrooms are very cramped and I recall it being difficult to shower on a daily basis, considering that there are no shelves for you to put your soap down. One last thing, that was a highly concerning factor was the fire alarm in the room. There were times when it would randomly go off in the first room that we stayed in, and it was so loud. The noise was similar to a natural disaster alarm that signals the initial part of a natural disaster. It was going off so much that we eventually decided to switch rooms. Still, with the new room, the fire alarm went off twice. That was definitely the part of the stay that irritated us the most. Also, I don’t know why, but there was so much unnecessary noice both inside/outside the hotel. There was noise in the hallway from people slamming doors, and cleaning staff talking loudly outside of the hotel rooms. However, the staff were nice and helpful when we needed further accommodation arrangements.

Lovely place

The A/C didn't work. The "thermostat" in the rooms were so complex you needed an engineering degree to operate them. When the building manager come to reset the thermostat, soon after he left it shut itself off. We had three nights with no A/C. DO NOT stay at Hotel Nell in the summer. They don't really seem to care. I note that the Bolgiano's restaurant or breakfast was very good.

It's a great location only 15 minute walk from the Metro.

This is my second time staying. Clean, modern, unique rooms. Comfortable and close to Union Market and the metro. Good price. And friendly staff. Def recommend

Overall it's was ok

Always a go to hotel when staying in DC. In such a great neighborhood too lots to do. Parking situation is kind of weird but so is all parking in DC.

The room was well put together and I liked the area, good for soloing.

For the positives - staff was great. Very helpful and nice. We did receive 2 complimentary house margarita vouchers upon checking in. The 3 dining options were nice and the vibe of the hotel/overall decor was modern and comfortable. Parking was unavailable the first night, but we were able to purchase it the next day for the rest of the stay. There are only about 6 spots and it is $45 a night, which is cheaper than the parking garage across the alley at $60 overnight.

Very friendly staff and cozy rooms.

Our initial room had a broken toilet that we told the two girls up front about and they said they would send a maintenance man up but when we left for a few hours and came back it was still broken. There was a new worker up front and when we told her about the situation we were moved into a different room which helped but was still inconvenient. The roof bartenders were good. The server doing breakfast Sunday was slow and only came back to the table rarely. Parking was also 20 minutes away unless you wanted to pay $60 a night. We won’t be back

People r amazing and enjoyed around the area

Loved everything about the hotel. Great location with lots of options for food nearby. Short drive to attractions. Only issue was noise early. Could hear people outside in the morning.

Excellent location and very comfortable rooms

Not good value for money. No food service because it was Sunday. Very loud as it's on a highway. Very basic. Not recommended.

Great location and I love the vibe of the hotel. The cleaning of rooms is poor. They don’t bother cleaning thoroughly. One day I left at 7am retuning at 18:40 and housekeeping came to clean at 18:45 and I sent them away. They don’t restock towels accurately - one day I had 3 bath towels and no face towels for two days. It also took me 12 hours and multiple staff to convince them the temp in the room was not the temp on the maintenance person’s handgun. The staff are nice the location and building are great it would be good to better manage the property.

Unfortunately I discovered my coffee maker was broken the first morning. They replaced it with a second one, but it wouldn't turn on the following morning.
