The service staff was excellent, and they had a shuttle service available all the time. Some things cannot be paid for with a card, such as ticket passes.

Near the ski/snowboarding area. The onsen water acidity is amazing. The room is emaculate. The onsen water is barely cleaned. Alot of dead skin inside. Good thing at least is the acidity, and i can wash off the dirt at the shower. Staff's body odor can be pretty strong...

We did not eat at the lodge. The location was near the heart of Zao, so restaurants and the bus to Yamagata were very accessible. Only a 1-block walk to put your skis on and glide to the base of the gondola. The lodge was vibrant with activity but the rooms were quiet. A nice big room to store ski and dry equipment, boots and clothing. The natural onset (hot spring) was nice and hot, with a very well-maintained set-up through an insulated passageway from the main lodge. The proprietors were very understanding and generous when problems with the bullet train caused us to miss the first night of our stay. The lodge is all uphill from the bus station. They do have a shuttle service on request, and it ran frequently - We only found out about it after we lugged all our luggage up - - I only blame myself for not reading the fine print.....
