The food was very good 2 of the 3 nights in terms of quantity. It was a lot of stairs up and down to the 2nd floor. Not their fault, it was an old building, I should have mentioned to them that I need a 1st floor room because of my recent total knee replacement surgery

Strong sulfur smell.

Very nice ryokan! The staff were very helpful, the breakfast was very good, and the onsen is very relaxing. The property was clean and the tatami mat rooms were great. It is a little pricier than other ryokans in the area, and was more crowded with international visitors than I thought. It is also a longer walk to the ski slopes than other places.

One side of the baths was comparably smaller to the other, but they are switched during the day.

Nice stuff and Clean room

No shuttle if you dont book 3 days in advance. Bit of a hike to the ski lifts, 10 mins uphill or down. Onsen is a single pool, or 2 dependong on the day. Staff is nice.

The property itself was clean and traditional with tatami throughout. The meals were fantastic along with our server - who had a very pleasant attitude! This hotel is part of the Wind of Zao group, with a few sister hotels nearby. Reviews on the other hotels generally say that their customer service is poor and I have to agree that it is consistent with this hotel as well. They lack the Japanese hospitality and the attitude towards customer is not welcoming. When I checked into the hotel, the staff didn’t even say “Welcome” and she served you reluctantly as if she didn’t want you to be there (the girl in the morning). Later when we returned to the hotel the guy had a much better attitude. The hot springs in this hotel were sub-par. The outdoor bath was closed and the indoor ones were super hot. It was small and stuffy.

onsen is great no lift, pre assigned room is super far from entrance door i count on my walking to room ~2mins (one way) asked staff to change to more close room but no action, ryokan is good for relax but not ski in-out ,too much stairs dont recommend for aged people

The hotel is centrally located. We like that we can try different onsens facilitated by their sister hotel and other onsens nearby. There are lots of stairs in this hotel.

Very spacious and comfortable stay, amazing chef prepared balanced delicious, freshly nutritious food for dinner and breakfast. An experience in itself. Relaxation to the max with great amenities. Location was prime and easy accessibility. Their onsen was refreshing, clean in a beautiful setting. Their staff from the cleaning crew, reception and restaurant was very welcoming, kind, had a great attention to details No Appplicable

Beautiful hotel (on the inside) with great onsen and a nice relaxation space. Very spacious rooms as well. The hotel breakfast is an amazing display of Japanese variety in dishes. The street and stairs to enter the hotel is quite broken up and barely lit
-
Wonderful stay. The breakfast was absolutely amazing, the interior is beautiful, my room was much bigger I thought it would, the massage chairs were an absolute plus. The onsen was smaller than I expected however they are plenty other baths in the town if you want to have the big onsen experience, therefore it is not an issue.

An absolutely beautiful authentic Japanese stay! It’s located a short 10min walk to the ski lifts and has massage chair and a natural onsen to help wind down after a day of riding. The staff were very polite and helpful. The room itself was very clean and spacious. Loved our time in Zao all thanks to this stay!

A very large room. Onsen is excellent. Near the cable car station. No bath room in the room.
-
The staff was not welcoming and our room had a foul odor. We were not aware we couldn’t use the public bath until after booking and this hotel does not allow cancellation. We had to go to another public bath to take a shower because we have tattoos.
-
walking distance Some guests do not respect the onsen etiquette. They didn't shower or clean thoroughly before going into the common bath.. An onsen guide was given but guests didn't respect.
