Location is excellent, staff very friendly and breakfast was delicious. Having to leave!!

Location. Interior design. It was very very busy with race goers who had reserved seats in the beautiful lounge. Stayed for two nights and was unable to get a seat anywhere. Also felt that given the cost of breakfast it was a bit lacking in healthy options. For example there was no fruit on offer.

Very nice hotel. Wonderful location right by the station. Excellent breakfast. Pleasant pool though quickly feels crowded with not many people there. Super staff. I felt it was over-priced for the (relatively small) room and region, though it seems York city is bafflingly expensive

If you are traveling by train, the location is fantastic as it is right next to the station. The building also has its charm. There is a damp smell in the bathroom. The shower leaks onto the bathroom floor outside the shower closet as the shower door does not shut tight. Room lighting is quite dim.

Fantastic location in walking distance from cafes, restaurants and shops. The hotel was immaculate. The staff were attentive and friendly. The breakfast was beautiful. It was also great to be able to unwind and relax using the leisure facilities. Would definitely recommend it to others and return ourselves. The car park was very expensive and this was something that wasn't clear when booking. We got soaked in the rain on the night and when we were back in the room realised there was no hair dryer to dry our hair.

All 12 ladies loved the location and the grand of the hotel. It was well mainted and clean throughout. All beds very super comfy and a good sleep had by all.The Breakfast was lovely and also kept on top off throughout the morning. The Abba night was fantastic with great food and a brilliant show. We thought the price of the drinks was alittle over priced

Easy to get to from the station Bed was lovely and big Staff were very kind and caring especially in the bar Bathroom was so tiny you couldn't move - for the money spent I would not come back here due to this

A beautiful, well-maintained, characterful hotel with friendly, helpful staff. After an overcrowded, chaotic train journey, my stay at the Milner York was balm to the soul! Afternoon tea in the charming Garden Room on arrival calmed my frayed nerves. And the lovely comfortable bedroom with a view of the gardens was just what I needed. Delicious breakfast set me up for my onward train journey. Extremely convenient location too, next to the station and an easy walk to the famous Minster and Shambles. I'll definitely be back. Everything was perfect for me, but I didn't arrive by car. Parking looked limited and quite expensive.

The location is the hotel's biggest selling point. It's perfect for a city break, with York's attractions all within easy walking distance, and the train station is right next door, making arrival and departure extremely convenient. Unfortunately, while the location is outstanding, the overall hotel experience no longer matches the premium standard it once offered. I stayed at this hotel for five days in 2021 when it was still operating as the Principal Hotel, and the experience was exceptional. The quality, service, and attention to detail were the reasons I returned and confidently recommended it to family and friends. Unfortunately, my recent stay was a significant disappointment, and the hotel no longer reflects the premium standard I previously experienced. The biggest letdown was the breakfast. Previously, breakfast offered an excellent selection with high-quality made-to-order options, freshly prepared eggs, speciality coffee, and premium fruit juices. It now feels like a standard buffet with a very limited selection. The eggs were overcooked, the coffee appeared to be pre-made rather than freshly brewed, and the fruit juice tasted more like diluted squash than real juice. For a hotel at this price point, the breakfast no longer meets expectations. The room itself also fell well below the standard I remember. I booked a twin room, but both beds were fitted with wheels that were not locked, causing them to move every time someone sat or turned over in bed. This was uncomfortable and raised concerns about safety. The bathroom was also poorly maintained. The toilet door lock had been replaced with a simple manual latch that did not match the door handle, giving the impression of a temporary repair. The bottom of the bathroom door was cracked and worn, the Victorian-style shower controls were loose, the hot and cold adjustment knob was rusty, and it was difficult to regulate the water pressure and temperature. In addition, the bathroom amenities have been reduced to only the basics, which feels disappointing considering the room rate. For a stay costing approximately £540 for two nights I expected the same level of comfort and quality that I experienced previously. Sadly, the hotel appears to have declined in both maintenance and service standards.

It was very clean, the staff were friendly and the location amazing for the station and very convenient for the city The doors are very noisy and we were woken by neighbours leaving their rooms
