I booked with confidence through other reviews that I would be taken care of here and I absolutely was. I hardly spoke any Japanese but communication was not an issue at all! The care I received and colorful personalities of the staff I was able to meet is unforgettable. The private onsen was amazing, the staff were professional and reassuring, meal times were timely and beyond what I imagined. I will never forget the lovely ladies who wished me well with omamori upon my departure!

Staff serving is also very good. The dinner set dinner could be better improved. I found bones in 2 pcs of my sashimi

Yamadaya has a lovely traditional feel and the staff were very welcoming. It is also in a peaceful part of Yufuin yet central. The property was very well maintained and clean and the room was very comfortable. The variety of onsens available provided a great experience. I had the pleasure of having breakfast and dinner there which was very well presented and tasty. The location was also an easy walk to the train station.

Room was dirty , toilet wasn’t cleaned properly at all . Even though the staff changed the room for us but this shouldn’t happen especially with the price we paid . The food is over rated too . Looks fancy but I’ve had much more authentic Japanese dinner and breakfast in other onsen hotels

The property was beautiful and very close to the train station so it was easy to walk to. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was delicious ?. I’m really happy that I got the chance to stay here
-
Staff was supernatural in their attentiveness’s The outdoor light was too bright in the private tub
-
Meals were delicious Receptionist was downright hostile to me. Didn’t smile or greet me or say goodbye or thank you.

It’s a very simple layout. Its simplicity and elegance is what makes it feel very original. The private bath is relatively smaller but it feels cozier as a result. The location is also very close to the station, so we can travel there easily after checking out. The public bath felt slightly lacking.

Excellent Japanese style breakfast. Tasty. Not quite sure if there is shuttle service to Station?

It was hard to get a feel of this ryokan based on pictures alone, but it was a truly exceptional stay. I was worried Yufuin would be crowded and busy, it kind of was on some streets, but the calm and comfort of the ryokan meant it was one of my most memorable stays on a 30 day Japan trip. There is a wide selection of both indoors / outdoors public and private onsen baths at this ryokan. Not sure why the private bath system exists, probably for shy families who don't want to be naked around strangers, but I made the most of it by sampling three different baths during my stay. Food is served in a dining hall, with special private rooms for solo travellers, which I thought was a nice touch. Food deserves a 8.5-9/10 mark, it was good, fresh, plentiful, and varied. I have been spoiled in the past and have had a few 10/10 meals in ryokans, this was not quite there, but also this means the price of the stay wasn't sky-high. The room felt new and was very pretty. It's hard to find anything to improve. But for the sake of constructive criticism, my room was on the road side, and I felt like soundproofing could be a bit better. Also, it's too bad that baths are closed in the time frame between breakfast's end and before checkout. Finally, and this is in no way the hotel's fault, but I got laughed at by East Asian tourists who were surprised to see a non East Asian wearing a yukata on his way to the bath. Really?! We don't laugh at you guys when you wear Western clothes...

Everything was perfect. Staff made it the best place to stay Nothing.

The property is pretty close to the station by walking. It is a small accommodation but you have everything you need for a Ryokan experience. Love the varieties of the onsen. You can pre book the private onsen with no extra charge. The half board experience was great too. Nothing
