White Lion Hotel - Aldeburgh
About White Lion Hotel - Aldeburgh
The White Lion is a traditional hotel opposite Aldeburgh’s shingle beach, where wooden huts line the shore. Guests can enjoy fresh seafood, free Wi-Fi, and some of the rooms have far-reaching sea views. The privately owned hotel offers excellent service and menus made from fresh Suffolk produce. You can dine in the informal beach-facing bar, with its real ales, or the oak-paneled restaurant. With its warm atmosphere and good food, The White Lion is a wonderful seaside hideaway. A variety of walking trails surround the area, and Snape Maltings Concert Hall is a 10-minute drive away. Tennis at the Country Club, and golf on the established James Braid course can be arranged at nearby Thorpeness. There is also space for free parking on site.

Breakfast and dinner very good Staff very pleasant Room ok but bed too hard for me and pillows too full Softer bed

Staff was very helpful when I was suddenly taken ill. Arranged for an unplanned extra night, brought up a snack, stored my luggage in reception while I was at the hospital.

The room was quite small but decent. Breakfast and staff were lovely and the location could not be better. The bed comfortable but the overall standard was not as expected. Very simple but clean which is important. OK for a couple of nights but would not want to stay longer than that.

Waiting 30 minutes to be served breakfast. TV kept breaking up. Not really value for the money we paid-over £--- a night, would have expected more.

Excellent breakfast included in our bed & breakfast deal. The staff were great, very friendly. We have stayed in the White Lion several times and enjoy the location of the hotel, the lounge is very comfortable and the rooms are good. On this visit we had quite a walk to our room on the first floor, which involved some steps up and down along the corridor, which wasn't ideal.

Great location friendly staff The bathroom was very small

Seafront location with seaview room. Room small for £250 per night.

The staff were all lovely, the room was comfortable and clean and the food was very good indeed. When we arrived I was a bit uncertain as the outside is looking a bit shabby, but you would expect that being so close to the sea with the North East wind!

The staff were all very helpful and made our stay at the hotel very pleasant. The breakfast was waitress service with a wide choice of food in the light airy dining room. The room was very comfortable and clean.

The hotel is lovely and clean and the staff were very helpful and welcoming. The hotel is a bit shabby in places (outside and bathroom) but its cleanliness made up for it. Some aspects of breakfast were not great (poached eggs were cold and hard boiled) but rest was fresh and hot, again staff were great.

Superb location, good meals, friendly staff and very relaxing atmosphere. Rooms and hotel generally needs to be refurbished - especially the outside of the building.

Dogs. Dogs everywhere. Under tables. On couches. Someone put their plate down for the dog to lick. Who wants to see that?

Passable

Friendly reception staff on arrival. Tea and coffee making facilities with biscuits were appreciated. There was a decent amount of storage space. The bed was comfy although the bedding was a little scratchy. The bathroom had a good shower and was very clean. Breakfast was very good. We managed to park right outside the hotel, which was free and unlimited. Initial impression of the room was disappointing as it looked a little dated and absolutely stank of a plug in air freshener. Once we'd hidden the air freshener and opened the window, it improved. The bedroom carpet was a bit stained. Overall, I was expecting something a bit better for the money. It wasn't obvious from Booking.com that this is a dog friendly hotel.
