The apartment was excellent and had everything we needed for a weekend stay. Very clean and comfortable. The groceries they provided on the first day (bread, milk, butter, jam, fruit) was great as well as the daily delivery of fresh bread Just the location really - particularly to get groceries but ubers were cheap enough to get around. Would have been better if we had a car.

In terms of positives I would say that this was the nicest rental apartment that we have ever stayed in. 3 bedrooms all ensuite with a 4th general bathroom. It was very spacious, very clean, nice furniture, good sized balcony and a very well equipped kitchen with fresh bread rolls at about 9.30am every morning. All of the staff that we interacted with, from the security guard when we arrived late, to the cleaning staff and Shiela at reception were all very polite and friendly. The pool area was excellent, a really good sized pool, with lots of depths. My family found it cold but I loved it. We were a group of 6 and did not have a problem getting a sunbed but we were there in off peak and I imagine that if more of the apartments were occupied this might be a problem. There was a very well equipped gym onsite also. There was an onsite pool bar and snack/restaurant area which looked nice with a good menu but we didn't have a need to use it. The onsite restaurant, Tucanos, also looked lovely and the menu read very nice for us adults, but it didn't appeal to our teenagers so we didn't use it. It was a pity to see the restaurant so quiet (I appreciate it was off season, but in an effort to attract in some customers maybe lower off season prices might work ??) On one of the evenings we ate at the Pizzeria Casavostra which was about 10 mins drive to Almancil and I could not recommend it highly enough. If you want an indoor table a reservation would be required. We also went to Dano's for a drink and a game of pool with the teenagers. It's about 20 minutes walk from Encosta and as it was off season it was very quiet but it looked like a nice spot and the menu seemed good as well. The shack is about a 10 minute walk and its a lovely spot for a drink or a casual bite to eat. I was tempted to rent one of the apartments with a private pool but decided against it as we were only going to be there for a couple of days and it was off peak but for the 40% premium being asked I'm glad I didn't as our apartment overlooked the pool area of the apartment below. When we were there it was not occupied but I would not have been too happy at the lack of privacy if I had rented it and there were other guests right above. The counter argument against that is that in high season sunbeds at the pool might be a problem so this could be a price worth paying. Being within 25 minute drive of Faro airport has it's advantages but the downside is that there can be frequent flight activity . When we were there it was only during the daytime and it really didn't bother us but in high season at peak prices it would be unfortunate as it tends the spoil the otherwise very quiet resort. I went for a walk to the beach and it is a good 30 minute walk to get there. The beach is lovely and it's also possible to drive and park there.
