The location is very central and ideal for exploring Amsterdam on foot. The room was small but functional and generally okay for a short stay. Every morning between around 6:00 and 9:00 a.m. we were woken up by very loud noises. It varied between church bells, the garbage collection and other loud machines or maintenance work, making it difficult to get a good night’s sleep. The pillows were also very hard and uncomfortable. When we arrived, we noticed stains on the bed/bedding, which was not a good first impression. On our last day, there was also a power outage in our room, so we couldn’t charge our phones or use electrical devices.

My room came with a balcony overlooking Damrak, which I wasn't expecting. A. Very welcome surprise! There is no air conditioning and the bathroom ceiling is quite low, especially for tall people. But I was on the top floor.

The biggest issue with our stay was how a member of the reception staff treated my friend, who has a disability. When we arrived, the receptionist was very kind. We asked if she could help carry my friend's luggage upstairs, and she gladly did so without any hesitation, which we really appreciated. Unfortunately, our experience when checking out was the complete opposite. We asked the receptionist if she could help bring my friend's luggage downstairs because of her disability. Instead of responding with understanding, she sighed, told us she wasn't allowed to help, and argued with us for several minutes in a very dismissive tone. My friend even explained, "I'm not trying to give you more work, I literally have a disability," but the receptionist continued to speak to us in an unnecessarily rude and unsympathetic manner. What made this even more disappointing is that nowhere in the hotel's description does it mention that the property is not suitable for guests with disabilities or that staff are unable to provide assistance with luggage. If helping with luggage is against hotel policy, that should be clearly stated before guests book. But regardless of the policy, there was no excuse for the way we were spoken to. A little empathy and respect would have made all the difference.

Close proximity to the city centre at a reasonable price. The beds were comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. There was also a luggage storage facility for after your checkout. The stairs were steep which can be difficult but totally to be expected.
